Free-agent outfielder Matt Holliday has intentions of playing in 2019. Holliday will be 39 heading into next season and will be more attractive to American League teams in a designated hitter role. In just 53 at-bats over 25 games for the Rockies in 2018, he hit .283/.415/.434 with two home runs and three RBI. Holliday will have to settle for a minor league deal again this winter and isn't a lock to make a team's opening day roster out of spring training.
Colorado Rockies outfielder Matt Holliday is starting in left field and is batting fifth in the wild-card game on Tuesday against Cubs starter Jon Lester. Left-handed hitters Carlos Gonzalez and Gerardo Parra will take a seat against the southpaw. Holliday has been much better against lefties this year, hitting .313 with one of his two home runs. He's hit .283 with two homer and three RBI in his 53 at-bats for Colorado this season. Holliday profiles as a DFS sleeper on Tuesday.
Colorado Rockies outfielder Matt Holliday remains in the starting lineup for the second straight game on Friday. Holliday has been hitting well for the Rockies since being called up on August 23. Holliday will bat fifth and play left field versus lefty Clayton Kershaw. It's not really a smart idea to use any batter against Kershaw in DFS contests.
Free-agent outfielder Matt Holliday said in an interview on MLB Network Radio on Friday that he has not yet received a contract offer from any teams this offseason. Holliday batted .262/.366/.511 with 15 home runs in the first half last season but hit just .179/.225/.300 in the second half while battling through a virus. He wants to continue playing and could probably help a team at the very least in a part-time role, but Holliday is now 38 and it is conceivable he might be pushed into retirement given how slow-moving the market has been.
New York Yankees free-agent designated hitter Matt Holliday plans to continue his career at least through the 2018 season. Holliday was a disappointment in 2017 with his .231 averaged, but he still managed to hit 19 home runs in 373 at-bats over 105 games. Because he was mainly limited to DH duties last year, he's likely to stay in the American League in what could be his final season. At 38 years old in 2018, Holliday's fantasy value will be limited to likely AL-only leagues as a under-the-radar power source with potentially limited playing time, depending on where he lands.
New York Yankees designated hitter Matt Holliday is serving as the DH and is hitting eighth in Game 1 of the Championship Series against Astros starter Dallas Keuchel on Friday. Outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury will start on the bench with the team facing a left-hander. Holliday isn't a daily option. He's 1-for-7 (.143) in his career against Keuchel with two strikeouts and hasn't had an a-bat since the team's final regular season game Oct. 1.
New York Yankees designated hitter Matt Holliday remains out Thursday. Chase Headley will serve as the DH and is hitting seventh against Rays starter Jacob Faria. Headley doesn't move the needle all that much in fantasy with limited power, but he does hit in a potent lineup. Still, he's a low-ceiling option for DFS players looking to make a splash on this Thursday.
New York Yankees third baseman Todd Frazier and designated hitter Matt Holliday are being rested Wednesday. Chase Headley will man the hot corner and bat seventh, while Aaron Judge is serving as the DH and hitting second against Rays starter Matt Andriese. Aaron Hicks also sees another start in right field and is batting ninth. Judge, a lock for the American League Rookie of the Year, should always be in starting lineups. Headley is a mediocre DFS pick, and Hicks loses most of his daily luster hitting at the bottom of the order.
With the calendars turning to September, the New York Yankees began to make roster moves as expansions begin. The biggest move of the day was the activation of veteran Matt Holliday, who's struggled to remain healthy since late June. At the time of his initial injury at that time, he was hitting .262 with 15 home runs and 47 RBI, appearing to be the clubhouse leader of a Yankees club fighting for the AL East division title. After returning in mid-July, he struggled all the way to early August, when he once again landed on the disabled list with a left lumbar strain. Following a rehab with the Single-A Tampa Yankees and Triple-A RailRiders of Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, he's been activated.
New York Yankees designated hitter Matt Holliday was placed on the 10-day disabled list on Sunday with a left lumbar strain. The Yankees recalled first baseman Garrett Cooper from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to take Holliday's place on the roster and he could see more time with Holliday out. Cooper has hit .240/.269/.440 over 25 at-bats with the big club this season, acquired on July 13 from Milwaukee for pitcher Tyler Webb. Holliday only has a .136 batting average and four RBI over the last 30 days, demoted from the cleanup role in the Bronx, and tweaked his back on a swing on Friday against the Indians. The time off may be good for Holliday, who has fallen off of the fantasy radar with his statistical nosedive, and he can be dropped in all formats.
