Matthew Allan Sharp In 2025 Debut

New York Mets right-handed pitcher Matthew Allan logged 2 2/3 innings in his 2025 Low-A season debut. In this outing, Allan did not allow a run. He served up just two hits and held a strong 2:5 BB:K. Allan was once considered a top prospect in the Mets' system, but he dealt with numerous arm injuries. He last appeared in a minor-league contest during the 2019 season. He was able to pitch well in camp, which was a great sign. In addition, according to numerous reports, his velocity was also up in spring training. Fantasy managers should continue monitoring the 23-year-old's progression as he looks to return to full strength after his extended absence. If Allan continues to perform well with Low-A, the Mets will likely promote him to High-A in the coming weeks.

Matthew Allan Fully Healthy During Camp

New York Mets right-handed pitcher Matthew Allan (elbow) is fully healthy during camp. Allan has already thrown two successful bullpen sessions and is set to throw his third later on Thursday. The 23-year-old is expected to begin the 2025 campaign in the minor leagues. The former third-round selection in the 2019 MLB Draft has undergone several operations, including Tommy John surgery and a UCL revision operation. Before these injuries, Allan logged 8 1/3 innings in the Rookie League before tossing two frames at the Single-A level. Across these 10 1/3 frames, the Seminole high-school product posted a 2.61 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP. He tallied 14 punchouts and served up four free passes. Fantasy managers should expect Allan to be slowly built up during camp as he looks to enjoy his first full professional campaign. He will likely begin the season at the lower levels of the minor leagues.

Matthew Allan Had Another Surgery In January

New York Mets top pitching prospect Matthew Allan (elbow), who had Tommy John surgery last May, had another operation to fix a nerve issue in his arm in January. Allan was the team's third-round pick in the 2019 MLB draft, and he posted a 2.61 ERA and 1.45 WHIP with 14 strikeouts and five walks in 10 1/3 innings over six outings (five starts) in his first professional season in 2019 with the Mets Rookie League affiliate and Low-A Brooklyn. Allan didn't pitch at all in the shortened 2020 season, and with his latest surgery, there's a chance that he misses all of the 2022 season as well. The 20-year-old probably won't be a realistic option to reach the majors until 2024, at the earliest. Allan generates easy mid-to-high 90s velocity with his fastball and is consistently around the plate with his curveball and changeup.

Matthew Allan Working With Jacob deGrom

New York Mets right-handed pitching prospect Matthew Allan has been working with Jacob deGrom during the early part of spring training. The Mets have paired Allan with deGrom in nearly all of their drills. They are hoping the 19-year old prospect, who is currently the Mets' fourth-ranked MLB Pipeline prospect, can learn a bit of what has made deGrom so successful. The 2019 draft pick has impressed team officials so far in his first big-league spring camp. That said, he will not break camp with the Mets or see major league action in 2021. He projects as a future SP2 who should reach the majors sometime in 2023. If he can develop under the tutelage of deGrom, his ceiling could even be higher. Though not a redraft target for 2021, Allan should be rostered in all dynasty formats.
