Angels Sign Speedster Michael Bourn
The Los Angeles Angels, in desperate need of some outfield help after Mike Trout (thumb) and Cameron Maybin (0blique) were both placed on the disabled list, signed outfielder Michael Bourn to a minor league contract. He is starting for the Triple-A Salt Lake Bees tonight, reports Pedro Moura of The Los Angeles Times. Bourn has not played in the major leagues this season but has appeared in over 100 games in each of the last 10 seasons and has stolen 10 or more bases each year, with as many as 61 back in 2011. Bourn spent last year with the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Baltimore Orioles, hitting .264 with five home runs and 15 stolen bases in 375 at-bats. He was released from the Orioles' Triple-A affiliate last month after playing 11 games for them and hitting .220/.373/.317 with three stolen bases. The two-time All-Star will likely be recalled soon and could be a nice source of steals in very deep mixed and AL-only formats as long as Maybin is out. Outfielders Shane Peterson and Eric Young Jr. have been recalled to replace Trout and Maybin, but neither figures to have the fantasy relevance that Bourn could if he steps into an everyday role.
