Boston Red Sox pitcher Mike Shawaryn will continue to pitch out of a relief role, according to manager Alex Cora. Shawaryn, who pitched through the minor leagues as a starter, has pitched well so far in a limited amount of work, compiling 11 strikeouts over six innings to go along with a 2.65 FIP. If he can continue to pitch well and get moved into a starter's role, he could bring some value to the table, but as of now he holds little fantasy value and can remain on the waiver wire.
Boston Red Sox pitcher Mike Shawaryn pitched two innings, allowing no hits, and striking out three in Saturday's game one of a doubleheader loss to Tampa Bay. He needed 36 pitches to get through his outing, but he stopped the bleeding left by starter Josh Smith's four-run second inning. Shawaryn made his MLB debut on Friday with a two inning, four strikeout performance. He went through the minors as a starter, making just one appearance as a reliever, so it's possible if he continue to perform well out of the pen, he may be given a spot start. For now, he's just a name to watch and doesn't warrant any fantasy consideration.
