Nick Markakis Announces Retirement

Outfielder Nick Markakis has announced his retirement from the MLB after 15 seasons. He spent the first nine years of his career with the Baltimore Orioles and the last six years with the Atlanta Braves. He finishes his career with a career batting average of .288 as well as 189 home runs and 1,046 RBI. When announcing his retirement, Markakis said that he knew he'd retire after the Braves lost the 2020 NLCS. He just didn't tell anyone at the time. Markakis turned 37 this past November and saw his numbers dip last year as he slashed .254/.312/.392 with just one home run in 37 games.

Nick Markakis Out Of Wednesday's Lineup

Atlanta Braves outfielder Nick Markakis is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. The team opted to go with more right-handed batters with the left-handed Keegan Akin on the mound for the Orioles. Austin Riley will start at third base and bat seventh, while Adam Duvall and Marcell Ozuna patrol the outfield. All of the Braves' right-handed batters are worthwhile options in DFS formats for Wednesday's slate.

Nick Markakis Hits The Bench On Tuesday

Atlanta Braves outfielder Nick Markakis is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Miami Marlins. The 36-year-old is just 3-for-28 at the plate with seven strikeouts over his last seven games. In his absence, Ender Inciarte will start in center field and bat ninth against Sixto Sanchez. Inciarte is carrying a .200 average across 90 at-bats in 2020 and is a definite fade on Tuesday's slate.

Nick Markakis Picks Up Three Hits Against Red Sox

Atlanta Braves outfielder Nick Markakis was 3-for-4 with two RBI, a run scored, and a walk during Monday's 6-3 win over the Boston Red Sox. He has produced 11 extra-base hits in 18 games since rejoining the team on August 5. The 36-year-old has shown no signs of decline, as he is slashing .368/.429/.596 with 11 RBI across 57 at-bats. Despite his veteran status, he is a viable depth outfielder in the majority of fantasy leagues as he continues to bat in the heart of the Braves' lineup.

Braves Activate Nick Markakis

Atlanta Braves outfielder Nick Markakis was activated from the injured list on Tuesday and had been expected to start in right field before the teams game against the Yankees was postponed. Markakis had been sidelined since August 19 after he may have been exposed to coronavirus, but he figures to reclaim the starting right field job in Atlanta after playing in 11 consecutive games prior to his stint on the injured list. With Markakis back in the lineup, DH Matt Adams likely heads back to the bench after starting in three of the past four games for Atlanta.

Nick Markakis Returns To Lineup Tuesday

Atlanta Braves outfielder Nick Markakis will be back among the starting nine Tuesday against the Yankees and right-hander Gerrit Cole, with top prospect Cristian Pache being optioned back to the clubs alternate training site. Markakis has been out of the mix since Aug. 17 after potentially having been exposed to COVID-19, but he has been cleared to rejoin the lineup looking to continue his hot five-game stretch (8-for-17). His matchup with Cole all but zaps his DFS intrigue, but he figures to hold down the right-field spot with regularity moving forward.

Nick Markakis Placed On Injured List

Atlanta Braves outfielder Nick Markakis has landed on the COVID-19 injured list due to a possible exposure to the virus, although he has tested negative. The club called up top prospect Cristian Pache prior to Tuesdays game, and he figures to take over for Markakis as long as he is sidelined. After having initially opted out of the 2020 year due to concerns over the pandemic, Markakis has begun the year hitting at a torrid rate with a .353/.421/.618 slash line across his first 11 contests. Its important to note that he has not been placed on the mandatory 10-day IL, so he could return shortly should he be cleared.

Nick Markakis Continues To Produce

Atlanta Braves outfielder Nick Markakis was 2-for-3 with two doubles, an RBI, and a walk during Monday's 7-6 win over the Washington Nationals. Markakis has been highly productive since he decided to return to the team on August 5. He is slashing .353/.421/.618 with six RBI across 34 at-bats. It was unclear whether or not the 36-year-old would be a viable fantasy asset upon return, but it is clear he has something left in the tank. He is someone to target in any standard leagues with 12 or more teams.

Nick Markakis To Make First Start Of Season Thursday

Atlanta Braves outfielder Nick Markakis will man right field and bat fifth during Thursdays matchup against Blue Jays right-hander Nate Pearson. Markakis, who had initially planned to sit out the 2020 year due to COVID-19 concerns, forces Ender Inciarte to the bench and Marcell Ozuna to the designated hitter spot. Having recorded an out in his debut Wednesday, Markakis is back in the lineup against a righty, which bodes better based on last seasons splits (.816 OPS vs. RHP, .653 vs. LHP). A staple of consistency throughout his career, Markakis offers a solid waiver wire grab for those owners who are in a position to add his bat to the mix.

Nick Markakis Rejoins Braves For 2020 Year, Activated Wednesday

Atlanta Braves outfielder Nick Markakis had initially backed out of the 2020 campaign due to concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, but after an appeal to the league office, he was granted the right to return. Markakis arrival comes the same day as Ozzie Albies (wrist) and Matt Adams (hamstring) hit the injured list, meaning that Atlanta could use the consistent play that Markakis provides. While the veteran has delivered an OPS over .800 just once in the past seven seasons, he remains an excellent source of walks and hits, making him valuable in particular season-long formats. Owners can expect him to hold down consistent playing time out of the gate, but any struggles may allow manager Brian Snitker to get creative with lineups.
