Guardians
Cleveland Guardians starting pitcher Peyton Battenfield (shoulder) threw 58 pitches in Tuesday's rehab start with Double-A Akron. Battenfield pitched three scoreless innings, allowing one hit and four walks with three strikeouts. This was the 25-year-old's first rehab outing since being placed on the injured list on May 18 with right shoulder inflammation. Battenfield will not be eligible to rejoin the Guardians until the beginning of August. He made seven appearances (six starts) in his first stint in the big leagues and had lackluster results, going 0-5 with a 5.19 ERA. Battenfield is worth fantasy attention in dynasty leagues and keeper leagues, but he may not be guaranteed a roster spot even when he is eligible.

Peyton Battenfield Placed On 15-Day IL
Cleveland Guardians right-hander Peyton Battenfield (shoulder) landed on the 15-day injured list on Friday. The 25-year-old has started six games this season, amassing a hideous 0-5 record with a 5.19 ERA, so the update won't mean much for fantasy managers. However, despite Battenfield's struggles in 2023, being without him isn't pleasant news for a club that's dealt with injuries within the rotation all year. In a corresponding move, the Guardians recalled Tim Herrin from Triple-A for additional support.

Peyton Battenfield To Start Again Wednesday
Cleveland Guardians rookie right-hander Peyton Battenfield is scheduled to make another start for the team on Wednesday against the Detroit Tigers at home. Battenfield was briefly relegated to the bullpen, but he's now back in the starting rotation after the team sent Zach Plesac to the minors. The 25-year-old struck out seven batters in an impressive performance against the Minnesota Twins last Friday and will now get an even better matchup. Battenfield will be a strong streamer for that start and should remain in the rotation in the short term with Triston McKenzie (shoulder) and Aaron Civale (oblique) still on the injured list. In his first five big-league outings (four starts), Battenfield has a 4.07 ERA (5.12 FIP), 1.19 WHIP, 11 walks and 21 K's in 24 1/3 innings.

Peyton Battenfield Strikes Out Seven On Friday
Cleveland Guardians right-hander Peyton Battenfield was excellent in a 2-0 loss to the Minnesota Twins on Friday. Battenfield allowed two runs on two hits over seven innings. He struck out seven and walked none but wound up taking the loss in the low-scoring matchup. Battenfield is expected to remain in the team's rotation now that they optioned Zach Plesac to Triple-A earlier in the week. Battenfield now has a 0-3 record, 4.07 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and 21 strikeouts over 24 1/3 innings of work. He will face the Detroit Tigers on Thursday for his next start.

Zach Plesac Optioned, Peyton Battenfield Expected To Start Friday
The Cleveland Guardians officially optioned right-hander Zach Plesac to Triple-A Columbus on Thursday. Rookie right-hander Peyton Battenfield is expected to start on Friday against the Minnesota Twins in Plesac's rotation spot. Plesac had a rough 7.59 ERA in five starts this year, and opponents were posting a .374/.404/.576 slash line against him. The 28-year-old will go down to the farm to work some things out before Cleveland considers giving him another shot in the big-league rotation. Battenfield, 25, moved to the bullpen recently to make room for prospects Logan Allen and Tanner Bibee in the rotation, but he'll get another chance to impress the team in a starting spot. In his first four big-league outings (three starts), Battenfield has allowed 10 runs (nine earned) on 16 hits (three homers) while walking 11 and striking out 14 in 17 1/3 frames.
