Renato Nunez Homers In His Second Straight Game

Detroit Tigers first baseman Renato Nunez went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in the team's 7-4 loss to the Cleveland Indians on Friday. The Tigers selected his contract on Wednesday and he has made two starts since rejoining the team, homering in both games. Nunez got his first opportunity with the Tigers back in April. He has now played a total of nine games with the team this year and he has four home runs and a .600 slugging percentage over those nine games. However, he's hit just .200, going 7-for-35 with 10 strikeouts.

Tigers Select The Contract Of Renato Nunez

The Detroit Tigers selected the contract of first baseman Renato Nunez on Wednesday. The move came after the team placed outfielders Akil Baddoo (concussion) and Derek Hill (ribs) on the injured list. Nunez played in seven games for the Tigers in April and he hit two home runs and two doubles while slashing .148/.207/.444. He hit 43 home runs over 203 games with the Baltimore Orioles from 2019 to 2020, so he has some clear power upside. He also slashed .291/.383/.585 with 20 home runs, 64 RBI and 60 runs at Triple-A this year. However, his playing time likely won't be sufficient enough to warrant fantasy appeal and his stay with the team could be brief.

Tigers DFA first baseman Renato Nunez

The Detroit Tigers have DFA'd first baseman Renato Nunez. In a corresponding move, the team recalled infielder Zack Short from the alternate training site.Nunez played just seven games for the team and hit two home runs and two doubles, but had a .148/.207/.651 slash line. Harold Castro and Jonathan Schoop should split first base duties for the Tigers until Miguel Cabrera (biceps) returns from the injured list.

Renato Nunez Hits First Home Run On Monday

Detroit Tigers first baseman Renato Nunez received his second straight start on Monday and delivered a strong performance. He went 2-for-5 with a double and a home run. With Miguel Cabrera (biceps) on the injured list, Nunez should be the team's primary first baseman. Nunez has significant power upside. He hit 12 home runs in 52 games for the Baltimore Orioles in 2020 and he hit 31 home runs in 151 games the year before that. Fantasy managers looking for short-term power help in deeper leagues should strongly consider adding Nunez to their roster.

Renato Nunez Could See Significant Playing Time

Detroit Tigers first baseman Renato Nunez was added to the team's roster on Sunday after Miguel Cabrera (biceps) was placed on the 10-day injured list. Nunez played designated hitter and batted cleanup in Sunday's game against the Cleveland Indians, going 0-for-3 with a walk and three strikeouts. While Cabrera is out, Nunez could see semi-regular playing time at both designated hitter and first base. The 27-year-old is a proven power hitter who smashed 43 home runs over 203 games with the Baltimore Orioles the past two years. He's worth a look in deep leagues and AL-only leagues for fantasy managers in need of a short-term power boost.

Tigers Sign Renato Nunez To Minor League Deal

The Detroit Tigers have signed corner infielder Renato Nunezto a minor league deal. Nunez was designated for assignment by the Baltimore Orioles late last year. The Tigers currently project to use a combination of Jeimer Candelario, Willi Castro and Isaac Paredes at the corner spots this year, but Nunez could be a candidate for a prime bench role. Nunez, who is just 26 years old, bashed 31 home runs in 2019 and hit 12 home runs with a .816 OPS over 52 games in 2020. He's a shaky fielder and has some strikeout concerns, but he could still be a solid source of power off the bench for the Tigers.

Renato Nunez Absent From Thursday’s Lineup

Baltimore Orioles first baseman Renato Nunez (knee) is not among the clubs starting nine for Thursdays contest versus Boston and left-hander Martin Perez as he battles a sore knee. Pat Valaika will enter the lineup and hold down first base in Nunezs absence. On the heels of a 31-homer campaign in 2019, Nunez showcased this season that his power display was not a fluke, raising his slugging percentage to .487 this season. He still carries medium-sized and larger season-long appeal over the final few days of the year, with his next chance to return coming Friday at hitter-friendly Sahlen Field.

Renato Nunez Hits 11th Home Run Of Season Sunday

Baltimore Orioles first baseman/designated hitter Renato Nunez went 2-for-4 with a single, a solo home run, and two strikeouts in Sunday's 3-1 loss to the Yankees. Nunez took J.A. Happ deep in the second inning for his 11th HR of the season. This was nice to see, as Nunez has been slumping through the month of September. He has been known to go on hot streaks, however, so fantasy players should keep an eye on him. His upcoming matchups against a poor Braves pitching staff could be a nice opportunity for him to get going.

Renato Nunez Goes Hitless Saturday, Continues To Slump

Baltimore Orioles first baseman/designated hitter Renato Nunez went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in Saturday's extra-innings 2-1 loss to the Yankees. Nunez, who can be quite streaky, is in a massive cold streak, batting just .147 in the month of September. However, he does have three home runs in the month, so he has still provided a bit of fantasy value. Unfortunately, fantasy players may need to keep him on their benches for the rest of the season unless he can start to hit for average again.

Renato Nunez Returns To The Lineup On Tuesday

Baltimore Orioles first baseman Renato Nunez (hamstring) missed the team's past two games while dealing with a hamstring issue, but he's back in the lineup against the New York Mets on Tuesday. Nunez is playing designated hitter and hitting third in the game. It's been a solid year for Nunez, who has a slash line of .260/.319/.521 with 10 home runs, 23 RBI and 23 runs over 37 games. In a year where solid production has been a bit tough to find at first base for fantasy owners, Nunez has proven to be a solid low-end starting option. His 31 home runs from last year aren't looking like a mirage given his solid power production in 2020.
