Robbie Erlin Agrees To Minor League Deal With Dodgers
The Los Angeles Dodgers and relief pitcher Robbie Erlin have agreed to a minor league deal, according to Baseball America. Erlin last pitched for the Atlanta Braves and Pittsburgh Pirates in 2020 where he compiled a 5.40 ERA with four strikeouts in two appearances across 3 1/3 innings pitched. It has not yet been determined what type of role Erlin could have with the Dodgers in 2022, but he should not be considered fantasy relevant until further notice.
The Atlanta Braves are bringing back left-handed pitcher Sean Newcomb from the clubs alternate training site, designating southpaw Robbie Erlin to make room on the active roster. Newcomb last appeared for Atlanta on Aug. 10, and has been walloped in four starts this season with 17 runs allowed in 13 frames. But after Erlin yielded five in 1 IP during Thursdays start, the club was forced to look elsewhere for production. In nine appearances with Atlanta, Erlin struck out 25 batters in 26 IP, but also posted an 8.10 ERA. Newcomb has displayed success in the rotation (3.90 ERA in 2018) and in the bullpen (3.16 ERA in 19) in the past, although what he brings to the table over the final two-plus weeks remains up in the air from a fantasy perspective.
Atlanta Braves starter Robbie Erlin allowed five runs on six hits across four innings of work during Wednesday's 7-5 win over the Boston Red Sox. He struck out three batters while walking two. The 29-year-old owns a 7.23 ERA through 18 2/3 innings this season and is only in the rotation due to a multitude of pitching injuries. He is the definition of a fantasy afterthought.
The Pittsburgh Pirates signed pitcher Robbie Erlin to a minor league deal on Wednesday. Erlin will make $1.5 million if he's on the big league roster, plus another $100,000 in incentives. He'll receive an invite to spring training and can opt out of the deal if he's not on the Opening Day roster. The 29-year-old left-hander was 0-1 with a 5.37 ERA and 1.57 WHIP while striking out 52 and walking 15 in 36 relief appearances and one start for the Padres in 2019. He allowed just six home runs and posted a 3.61 FIP and career-high 8.5 K/9, though, so his final results were a bit unfortunate. Given Pittsburgh's lack of experience in the rotation, there's a chance that Erlin could become a valuable swingman for the Bucs. If he makes some starts in Pittsburgh, there could be some DFS and deep league streaming appeal.
San Diego Padres starter Robbie Erlin allowed two runs (one earned) in five innings Tuesday against the San Francisco Giants. Erlin surrendered four hits, no walks and fanned four. Having mostly worked out of the bullpen in 2018, Erlin posted a 5.11 ERA in 10 starts since August. With his final appearance in the books, Erlin will seek to win a starting job for the Padres heading into 2019. Competition is expected to be fierce, with no current starter a lock for a rotation slot and the Padres looking to bring in an outsider via trade or free agency. Erlin, a 27-year-old left-hander, offers excellent control with a 1.64 career BB/9 but possesses middling stuff that has yet to consistently fool hitters. He will be well-off fantasy draft boards next season.
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Robbie Erlin gave up six earned runs in four innings of work and took the loss on Monday night. Erlin did not walk any batters and had a clean first inning, but the wheels started to fall off the wagon in the second inning. This was only Erlin's second start of the season, despite having 13 relief appearances. He has gone just seven innings across those two starts with an abysmal 11 earned runs and only four strikeouts. Erlin has been effective as a reliever this season, but is not recommended as a starter right now.
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Robbie Erlin will start on Monday after Jordan Lyles replaced Joey Lucchesi in the rotation. Lucchesi went down with a hip strain last Tuesday and still is not eligible to return, so in the meantime, Lyles will take his place on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. This ultimately leaves Robbie Erlin to start on Monday against the Washington Nationals. Erlin has only made one start this year and is currently rocking a 3.60 ERA in 25 innings of work, however, will be facing a star-studded Nationals lineup and should not be streamed.
Battling for one of the final two spots in the Padres rotation, San Diego Padres starting pitcher Robbie Erlin took to the mound in an unscheduled start on Saturday night. Bryan Mitchell was scratched with a neck injury, giving Erlin a chance to prove himself. Erlin threw 3 2/3 innings of one-run ball, allowing only two hits and one walk while striking out four. That was Erlin's second appearance of the springs pr he works his way back from 2016 Tommy John surgery, and he has now allowed only two runs over 6 1/3 innings while sporting a 10.8 K/9. While this was a good step for him towards locking up a spot in the rotation, Erlin does not provide much fantasy value right now. The 27-year-old has thrown 148 2/3 career innings over four seasons with a career 4.54 ERA and 6.6 K/9, and while it is possible he could pitch better than that this year, there is no reason to own him in anything but the deepest of NL-only leagues.
After both players missed 2017 recovering from Tommy John Surgery, San Diego Padres starting pitchers Robbie Erlin(elbow)and Colin Rea(elbow) returned to live action in a "B" game on Thursday. They each pitched two innings and struck out a pair. Erlin and Rea are two of eight Padres pitchers battling for three rotation spots and could also ultimately contribute from the bullpen. Both have been mediocre in their limited major league experience. Erlin's resume includes a 4.54 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 6.6 K/9 in 25 career starts. Also with 25 starts, Rea has logged a 4.69 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and a 7.1 K/9.
Robbie Erlin, Colin Rea Hoping To Compete For Rotation Spots
San Diego Padres starting pitchers Robbie Erlin (elbow) and Colin Rea (elbow) are taking things cautiously in camp this year as they come back from Tommy John surgery, but they are both among the 10 candidates vying for the team's five starting rotation spots. "Both of those guys, we like where they are right now," said manager Andy Green. "And we like that they're heading back to pitching for us on, hopefully, a consistent basis. They're in the hunt for rotation spots right now." Erlin, a 27-year-old lefty, doesn't blow hitters away with velocity, so it could take him some time to settle back in as an effective starter in 2018 if he's given an opportunity. Rea also has average fastball velocity and is a ground-ball pitcher, which plays well at pitcher-friendly Petco Park. However, both pitchers will be brought along slowly, and while they have potential, fantasy owners should take a wait-and-see approach.
