Drew Steckenrider On Restricted List, Roenis Elias Called Up
The Seattle Mariners placed right-hander Drew Steckenrider on the restricted list on Monday and selected left-hander Roenis Elias' contract from Triple-A Tacoma in a corresponding move. The 31-year-old Steckenrider probably isn't vaccinated, so he won't make the trip for the team's series in Toronto this week. Steckenrider does have two saves in 13 innings pitched for the M's this year as part of a committee approach to the ninth inning, but he also has allowed seven earned runs and was pulled from a save situation on Sunday after allowing two runs. Diego Castillo, Paul Sewald and Andres Munoz could see save chances with Steckenrider out this week. Elias missed each of the last two seasons due to an elbow injury, and he could be sent right back to the minors when Steckenrider returns later this week.
Seattle Mariners reliever Roenis Elias (elbow, forearm) will undergo Tommy John surgery, knocking him out of the bullpen mix for the entire 2021 season. The Mariners have approached Elias' representatives about a two-year minor league contract, so that he can rehabilitate with the organization this year and compete for a bullpen spot in 2022. Needless to say, Elias will not be a contributor this year, fantasy or otherwise.
Seattle Mariners relief pitcher Roenis Elias (elbow, forearm) will undergo arm surgery. Further details are not yet known, but it now seems as though Elias will not factor into the bullpen mix for at least the start of the season, if not much longer. Elias left Thursday's game after only a single batter, cutting short what had been a very impressive spring for the veteran left-hander. Fantasy managers can ignore him in all types of fantasy leagues.
Seattle Mariners relief pitcher Roenis Elias (forearm, elbow) exited Seattle's game on Thursday with an apparent arm injury which now appears to be quite serious. The 32-year-old reliever impressed early in camp but is now set to see multiple doctors over the next few days to determine his next steps. It's hard to imagine Elias returning to the field in the immediate future, which opens up a bit more room in the bullpen for Seattle. Whoever takes the spot, they won't have immediate fantasy value with Rafael Montero securely in the closer's role.
Seattle Mariners relief pitcher Roenis Elias(elbow) left the Mariners spring game on Thursday with an apparent injury. Elias reportedly felt discomfort in his elbow while facing the first Dodgers batter of his outing. Elias seemed to have an inside track on a role in the Mariners bullpen after his hot start to spring, with four strikeouts and no runs allowed across 2 1/3 innings. He will be examined further Friday, according to manager Scott Servais. The setback seems to take him out of the running for any fantasy relevance to start the year.
Seattle Mariners reliever Roenis Elias made his first game appearance of spring training, allowing one hit and striking out two White Sox. Elias is in his third stint with Seattle, now a full-time reliever after making 53 starts for the Mariners since 2014. Elias has never been known to post big strikeout numbers, so he shouldn't be on the fantasy radar to start 2021, but keep an eye on the whole Seattle bullpen if presumed closer Rafael Montero falters.
The Washington Nationals traded for relief pitcher Roenis Elias from the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday, minutes after making a deal for reliever Daniel Hudson. Like Hudson, Elias loses any fantasy value he may have had before the trade, because he won't be getting save situations in Washington. Elias has also struggled this season to a 4.40 ERA in 47 innings.
Seattle Mariners reliever Roenis Elias locked down the teams 5-3 win over the Rangers Wednesday, tossing a clean ninth for his 13th save of the season. Despite owning a 14.40 ERA in July entering the night, Elias has still remained the go-to guy for saves in the Ms bullpen. He hasnt posted sexy numbers with a 4.70 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and 43 strikeouts in 43.0 IP, but hes currently the most seasoned pitcher they have. Elias role is likely to change somewhat with Hunter Strickland set to return from the IL in Early August. Whether he returns to a setup role or splits duties for save chances, Elias fantasy appeal will significantly drop once Strickland returns.
Seattle Mariners reliever Roenis Elias collected his 11th save of the season in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Cardinals. His only blemish was serving up a one-out double to Dexter Fowler, but he capped off the scoreless frame by striking out a pair and getting a groundout to end the game. Elias has been lights out in the ninth inning, going 11-for-12 in save opportunities, but he did take the loss in a non-save situation last week against the Astros. He holds a respectable 3.46 ERA and 40 punchouts in 39.0 innings this season, and should be owned in deeper mixed leagues for the fact that he's receiving all the save opportunities in Seattle.
Seattle Mariners reliever Roenis Elias worked two scoreless frames Wednesday, closing out the team's 4-2 win. The lefty struck out a pair in the outing and has now racked up five saves over his last six appearances on the mound. For the season, Elias has a 3.41 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and 38 punchouts in 37.0 innings pitched proving to be the most reliable arm in the M's bullpen. The fact that he's getting handed all the save opportunities makes Elias valuable in all mixed leagues, and he could hold off Hunter Strickland for the job when he returns from injury sometime next month.
