Rosell Herrera News

Rosell Herrera Collects Another Two Hits On Thursday

New York Yankees outfielder Rosell Herrera stayed hot on Thursday with a two-hit game, bringing his spring training OPS to a ridiculous 1.460. The Yankees signed Herrera to a minor league contract in January, and a strong spring training has given Herrera a shot at cracking the Opening Day roster. Herrera hasnt had a particularly impressive minor league career with a .741 OPS over 10 seasons, though he did steal 138 bases. If Herrera does manage to start the regular season in the major leagues, hell likely be a utility player after playing in the outfield and at second base so far this spring. Fantasy owners shouldnt overreact to spring training numbers and it's unlikely that Herrera sees regular playing time in 2020, but those in need of stolen bases should have Herrera on their radar as the season approaches given his impressive spring training.

Rosell Herrera Should Stop Stealing Bases

Kansas City Royals rookie Rosell Herrera has been a pretty mediocre waiver claim by most measures. He's not been otherworldly good or anything, but a .247 batting average in his first big-league season isn't bad at all. However, he should really stop trying to steal bases. Herrera was caught again on Monday night, and that's the fifth time he's been caught stealing this year. That's tied for 18th most in the league, and that's bad for someone who's only logged 170 at-bats this year. What makes it worse is that he's actually only successfully stolen one base all season. Only Herrera and Brandon Crawford have been caught stealing five or more times but not stolen five or more bases this year. The 25-year-old has a shot at getting plenty of playing time with the rebuilding Royals, but he really needs to stop running so much.

Rosell Herrera Starting At Third Base

For the second night in a row, Kansas City Royals rookie Rosell Herrera is starting at third base. Following the trade of Mike Moustakas, the Royals have been running an assortment of options out to the hot corner, but Herrera's appearance there is a bit of a shock. Herrera hasn't played more than seven games at third base in any season of his professional career, so to be doing so at a major league level is surprising. That said, the Royals are dealing with a situation where they have a glut of possible outfielders, so if they can possibly find an infielder amongst them, it could be a way for another young guy to help the team rebuild quicker. It could certainly boost Herrera's fantasy value if he were to gain 3B qualification.

Rosell Herrera Hits First MLB Home Run

Kansas City Royals outfielder Rosell Herrera flashed his power on Sunday by crushing his first major league home run against the Yankees. Herrera has been on fire since the All-Star break, but he really showed off in Yankee Stadium over the weekend. Herrera went 7-for-13 with the home run, three runs scored, and four RBI over the three games played on Saturday and Sunday. Herrera may have a bit of a playing time problem once the team's entire outfield is set since he's fighting for time with Jorge Bonifacio, Jorge Soler, Alex Gordon, and newly acquired outfielder Brett Phillips, but for now, Herrera's certainly making his impact.

Rosell Herrera Activated from Paternity List

The Kansas City Royals have activated outfielder Rosell Herrera off of the paternity list while designating Abraham Almonte in a corresponding move. Herrera has appeared in just 19 games with the Royals since being claimed off waivers from the Reds, hitting .267 with eight RBI and a stolen bases. For now, he doesn't hold any fantasy value, but if the Royals go through with their reported fire sale, perhaps Herrera sees more starts down the stretch.

Rosell Herrera Placed On Paternity Leave

Kansas City Royals rookie outfielder Rosell Herrera will be away from the team for a couple days due to the birth of his first child, but manager Ned Yost said he may possibly be back in time for Sunday's game against the White Sox. The 25-year-old is hitting .250 in limited time with the Royals after they claimed him off waivers from the Reds. Once considered a top prospect for the Rockies, Herrera has potential to be a solid player if he can find his way to regular playing time. Perennial disappointment Paulo Orlando was called up to take Herrera's place.

Rosell Herrera Extends Hitting Streak

Kansas City Royals outfielder Rosell Herrera is sitting at a five-game hit streak after slapping a single against Minnesota on Monday. Unfortunately, Herrera would then get picked off first, though the instant replay seemed to clearly show that he had slid back in safely. Upon review, the call wasn't overturned, so Herrera's basepath woes continue. The speedy 25-year-old is vying for more playing time in the future in KC, but he's been a disaster on the basepaths as he's been caught stealing on his last three attempts as well as picked off. Herrera has some serious potential and there's a void of young talent in KC, but he'll need to work on his awareness to continue to be a major league base stealer.

Rosell Herrera Provides Heroic Effort In Win

Kansas City Royals outfielder Rosell Herrera was heroic on both sides of the ball on Friday night as he helped lead the Royals to an outstanding win over the Astros. In the eighth inning of a scoreless game, Herrera robbed Alex Bregman of a home run with a fantastic leaping grab. He followed that up in the top of the ninth by drilling an RBI triple to the gap to bring in the game's only run. Herrera was claimed off waivers this season after he was released by the Reds, and so far he's playing his way into a more permanent job. Fantasy owners should keep an eye on him to see if he can turn Friday night's heroics into an ongoing thing.

Rosell Herrera Triples In First KC Start

Kansas City Royals outfielder Rosell Herrera got his first start for the major league squad on Monday, and he popped a triple to introduce himself. Herrera was claimed off waivers by KC after he was released by the Reds, and so far, he's held his own in Triple-A Omaha. Hitting .278 with a home run and four stolen bases over his first 41 plate appearances, Herrera was called up on Sunday and started in right field on Monday. There's a chance he'll find some short-term playing time with Jorge Soler on the DL and Jorge Bonifacio still finishing out his suspension, and if Herrera can show some skills, he could work his way into a more consistent spot. He'll mostly be battling with middle infield prospect Adalberto Mondesi to find a way into the lineup.

Rosell Herrera Claimed By Royals

The Kansas City Royals have claimed outfielder Rosell Herrera from the Cincinnati Reds after he was waived. Herrera was placed on the 40-man roster and assigned to Triple-A. To make room for the pickup, pitcher Nate Karns was moved to the 60-day disabled list. Herrera was a top Rockies prospect in 2014 when he was expected to be a shortstop or third baseman, initially slotted above current Rockies prospects and players like Ryan McMahon, Tom Murphy, Raimel Tapia, Trevor Story, and Chad Bettis. Hes hit for a pinch of power with a bit of speed (57 SBs from 2015 through 2017) across multiple levels, but none of his numbers have been outstanding enough to really excite fantasy crowds outside of a 36-steal season at Double-A in 2016. At just 25 years of age, he could still grow into solid slap hitter at the major league level.
