Rosell Herrera News
New York Yankees outfielder Rosell Herrera stayed hot on Thursday with a two-hit game, bringing his spring training OPS to a ridiculous 1.460. The Yankees signed Herrera to a minor league contract in January, and a strong spring training has given Herrera a shot at cracking the Opening Day roster. Herrera hasnt had a particularly impressive minor league career with a .741 OPS over 10 seasons, though he did steal 138 bases. If Herrera does manage to start the regular season in the major leagues, hell likely be a utility player after playing in the outfield and at second base so far this spring. Fantasy owners shouldnt overreact to spring training numbers and it's unlikely that Herrera sees regular playing time in 2020, but those in need of stolen bases should have Herrera on their radar as the season approaches given his impressive spring training.
Kansas City Royals rookie Rosell Herrera has been a pretty mediocre waiver claim by most measures. He's not been otherworldly good or anything, but a .247 batting average in his first big-league season isn't bad at all. However, he should really stop trying to steal bases. Herrera was caught again on Monday night, and that's the fifth time he's been caught stealing this year. That's tied for 18th most in the league, and that's bad for someone who's only logged 170 at-bats this year. What makes it worse is that he's actually only successfully stolen one base all season. Only Herrera and Brandon Crawford have been caught stealing five or more times but not stolen five or more bases this year. The 25-year-old has a shot at getting plenty of playing time with the rebuilding Royals, but he really needs to stop running so much.
For the second night in a row, Kansas City Royals rookie Rosell Herrera is starting at third base. Following the trade of Mike Moustakas, the Royals have been running an assortment of options out to the hot corner, but Herrera's appearance there is a bit of a shock. Herrera hasn't played more than seven games at third base in any season of his professional career, so to be doing so at a major league level is surprising. That said, the Royals are dealing with a situation where they have a glut of possible outfielders, so if they can possibly find an infielder amongst them, it could be a way for another young guy to help the team rebuild quicker. It could certainly boost Herrera's fantasy value if he were to gain 3B qualification.
