Ross Stripling News
San Francisco Giants right-hander Ross Stripling exercised his $12.5 million player option for the 2024 season over the weekend. After signing a two-year, $25 million deal before the 2023 season, Stripling went 0-5 with a 5.36 ERA (5.21 FIP), 1.35 WHIP, 16 walks and 70 strikeouts in 89 innings over 22 outings (11 starts) in his first year in the Bay Area. The 33-year-old will look to bounce back in 2024. He was much better in 2022 with the Toronto Blue Jays, as he posted a 3.01 ERA (3.11 FIP) and 1.02 WHIP with 20 walks and 111 strikeouts in a career-high 134 1/3 frames over 32 appearances (24 starts). But his strikeout rate dipped from 20.7 percent in 2022 to just 18.4 percent this year, and his walk rate also went the wrong direction from 3.7 percent to 4.2 percent.
San Francisco Giants right-hander Ross Stripling (back) threw a bullpen session on Monday ahead of his team's home game against the Cincinnati Reds. Stripling reportedly made it through the session without any issues. The 33-year-old has been on the injured list since August 19 with a back strain. He has made 19 appearances for the Giants this season, compiling a 0-5 record, 5.29 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and 61 strikeouts spanning 78 1/3i innings of work. He could be back with the team in the near future assuming he doesn't suffer any setbacks.
The San Francisco Giants placed right-hander Ross Stripling (back) on the 15-day injured list with a mild-back strain on Saturday. Sean Hjelle was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move. Stripling experienced back soreness on Friday, and the injury was severe enough to warrant a trip to the injured list. The 33-year-old has struggled this season, posting a 5.29 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and a 61: 11 K: BB across 78 1/3 innings. Stripling will miss at least the next two weeks, and fantasy managers who held onto him in deep leagues can move on from the veteran.

Right-hander Ross Stripling enjoyed arguably his best season in the Majors in 2022, making 32 appearances for the Toronto Blue Jays. Of those 32 appearances, 24 were starts. All told, the 32-year-old logged a 3.01 ERA, a 3.11 FIP, 111 strikeouts, and just 20 walks in 134.1 innings of work. The right-hander also registered 10 pitcher wins and a save. Now a member of the San Francisco Giants after signing with the National League West club as a free agent, Stripling should have some quality fantasy upside heading into 2023. In the five seasons in which the starter has logged at least 90 innings, he's logged an ERA south of the 4.00 mark four different times. Elsewhere, Stripling finished in the 98th percentile in walk rate last year with a 3.7% metric and now gets to pitch half of his games at spacious Oracle Park. And while the former Blue Jay didn't post gaudy strikeout numbers in his last season in Toronto, there's a lot to like here as a late-round rotation option for fantasy managers.
