Ross Stripling News
The San Francisco Giants and free-agent right-hander Ross Stripling agreed on a two-year, $25 million deal on Tuesday that includes an opt-out clause after the first season, according to sources familiar with the deal. The 33-year-old was excellent for the Toronto Blue Jays last season, going 10-4 with a 3.01 ERA (3.11 FIP), a 1.02 WHIP and a 20.7 percent strikeout rate in 134 1/3 innings over 32 appearances (24 starts). The Giants have now signed left-hander Sean Manaea and Stripling in recent days, perhaps signaling that they won't be bringing back All-Star southpaw Carlos Rodon in 2023 and beyond. The New York Yankees are believed to be making a strong push to secure Rodon. Stripling will return to the National League West, where he four full seasons from 2016-19 with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Toronto Blue Jays reinstated right-handed pitcher Ross Stripling (hip) from the 15-day injured list on Wednesday. Right-handed reliever Trent Thornton was optioned to Triple-A to make room on the active roster. Stripling is set to start Toronto's game on Wednesday against the Baltimore Orioles. The 32-year-old has made 23 appearances for the Blue Jays this season, 15 of which have been starts. He's pitched to a 3.16 ERA, a 3.02 FIP, and 67 strikeouts in 82.2 innings while allowing just 15 walks and six home runs.
Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Ross Stripling (hip) threw a bullpen session on Sunday. Provided he continues to show improvement, Stripling is next slated to throw either live batting practice or head off to a rehab assignment. The 32-year-old hurler landed on the injured list on August 3 after he strained his right hip following a July 30. Stripling has made 23 appearances for Toronto in 2022, posting a 5-3 record, 3.16 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, and 67 strikeouts over 82 2/3 innings of work. It looks like he could be back with the Blue Jays in the next week or two if all goes according to plan.

Right-hander Ross Stripling enjoyed arguably his best season in the Majors in 2022, making 32 appearances for the Toronto Blue Jays. Of those 32 appearances, 24 were starts. All told, the 32-year-old logged a 3.01 ERA, a 3.11 FIP, 111 strikeouts, and just 20 walks in 134.1 innings of work. The right-hander also registered 10 pitcher wins and a save. Now a member of the San Francisco Giants after signing with the National League West club as a free agent, Stripling should have some quality fantasy upside heading into 2023. In the five seasons in which the starter has logged at least 90 innings, he's logged an ERA south of the 4.00 mark four different times. Elsewhere, Stripling finished in the 98th percentile in walk rate last year with a 3.7% metric and now gets to pitch half of his games at spacious Oracle Park. And while the former Blue Jay didn't post gaudy strikeout numbers in his last season in Toronto, there's a lot to like here as a late-round rotation option for fantasy managers.
