Ryan Castellani Walks Four In Tuesday's Spot Start

Colorado Rockies right-hander Ryan Castellani took a no-decision when he surrendered two runs on five hits with four walks and two strikeouts in an 8-6 win over the Giants in Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader. Castellani was called up from Triple-A Albuquerque to make his season debut on Tuesday and didn't fare too well. He surrendered a two-run shot to Brandon Belt in the first inning and walked four batters over his 3 1/3 innings. He'll most likely be sent back down to Triple-A so there's no fantasy value to chase here.

Ryan Castellani Optioned To Triple-A On Tuesday

Colorado Rockies pitcher right-handed pitcherRyan Castellani was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday. The 24-year-old right-hander entered camp competing for a roster spot in the Rockies rotation, but things did not go well in the Cactus League. He allowed 10 runs (seven earned) over two innings pitched. He was a long shot to crack the rotation in the first place, but his spring performance certainly didn't help his cause. Castellani made his major league debut during the shortened 2020 campaign and struggled with a 5.82 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 25:26 K/BB ratio over 43 1/3 innings. He will likely get called up at some point in 2021 for the rebuilding Rockies, so this isn't the last we've heard of him. He won't be on the fantasy radar when that call-up happens, though.

Ryan Castellani Lit Up In Wednesday's Start

Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Ryan Castellani had a rough outing in his Cactus League debut on Wednesday against the Athletics. He only surrendered two hits, which led to seven runs (four earned), while also walking a pair over his two innings of work. The poor outing wasn't entirely his fault, though, as a few costly errors by first baseman C.J. Cron and left fielder Raimel Tapia factored into the inflated run total. Castellani didn't look sharp for his part, however, as only 24 of his 44 pitches went for strikes. Command was an issue for the 24-year-old last season as well, when he registered a rough 5.82 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 25:26 K:BB ratio over 43 1/3 innings (nine starts). He's currently competing for a rotation spot with Austin Gomber and will need to improve on his command if he wants to win the job. He's not a recommended fantasy arm, even if he does make the starting rotation.

Ryan Castellani Issues Six Walks In Sunday's No-Decision

Colorado Rockies starter Ryan Castellani surrendered a single unearned run on one hit across 5 2/3 innings during Sunday's 5-3 loss to the Los Angeles Angels. He struck out four batters while giving up a season-high six walks. Castellani has now walked 10 batters over his past 10 innings. The 24-year-old was in line for the win when he left the game, but the bullpen could not hold on. Castellani now owns a 4.46 ERA on the season to go along with a 1.34 WHIP and 23/18 K/BB rate. He is a definite fade in his next projected start against the daunting Los Angeles Dodgers' offense.

Ryan Castellani Victimized By Astros Wednesday

Colorado Rockies starter Ryan Castellani allowed five runs on eight hits across 5 2/3 innings of work during Wednesday's 13-6 loss to the Houston Astros. He struck out one batter while also walking one. The 24-year-old only allowed a single run through the first four innings, but then fell off the rails. Regardless, Castellani is still a viable streaming option when he takes the mound, as his previous two starts were productive. He will take on the Arizona Diamondbacks in his next projected start on Monday.

Ryan Castellani Tosses Four No-Hit Innings In Debut

Colorado Rockies right-handed pitcher Ryan Castellani did not allow a hit in his first Major League start Saturday against Seattle. Unfortunately for Castellani, he only worked four innings, tossing 60 pitches and not qualifying for the win. His performance marked the second Rockies pitcher to retire the first 12 batters of his big league debut, as he finished with three strikeouts and one walk. Owners will want to remain trepidatious in snagging Castellani off the waiver wire, as he produced an 8.31 ERA in 10 starts last season at Triple-A. His next turn in the rotation could come at Coors Field next week against Texas should he get another starting opportunity.

Ryan Castellani To Make Major League Debut

Colorado Rockies pitcher Ryan Castellani will make his big-league debut on Saturday against the Mariners. Castellani was recalled from the team's alternate training site after fifth starter Chi Chi Gonzalez (biceps) was placed on the 10-day injured list with biceps tendonitis. Castellani pitched in just 10 starts last year because of bone fragments in his elbow but had a 2.16 ERA after having them removed. He'll face an exciting young Mariners' lineup, which could potentially give him trouble.
