Free-agent infielder Ryan Goins has announced his retirement from professional baseball on Tuesday. The 35-year-old hasn't played in the big leagues since the 2020 campaign. He completely sat out the 2023 season, but played in the minor leagues with the Atlanta Braves during the 2021 and 2022 campaigns. During his career, Goins slashed .228/.278/.333 with 22 homers, 158 RBI and six stolen bases over eight seasons in the big leagues. During his career, Goins played with the Toronto Blue Jays, Chicago White Sox, and Kansas City Royals. Best of luck to him on whatever he decides to do after baseball.
The Philadelphia Phillies bolstered their depth at the Triple-A level on Tuesday by signing veteran infielder Ryan Goins to a minor league contract. The 30-year-old had previously been with the Kansas City Royals this year, hitting .226 with eight doubles and six RBI in 41 games. The 30-year-old had been assigned to Triple-A Omaha with the Royals before signing with the Phillies. While he has major league experience, it seems unlikely that he makes an impact with the big league club, as there are enough infielders on the roster currently constituted.
Free-agent infielder Ryan Goins is being considered by the Kansas City Royals, according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports. Heyman says that Kansas City "are looking at" the slick-fielding Goins as a potential fit as a utility infielder behind Raul Mondesi, Whit Merrifield and Cheslor Cuthbert. The 29-year-old is a career .228/.275/.335 hitter over parts of five seasons in the majors.
Free-agent infielder Ryan Goins is being considered by the New York Mets, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post. Goins was non-tendered by the Blue Jays earlier this month after batting .237/.286/.356 in 459 plate appearances in 2017. This report is not going to excite Mets fans, but the 29-year-old has a strong reputation as a defender and is capable of playing all over the infield.
The Toronto Blue Jays have non-tendered infielder Ryan Goins. Goins, who spent the past five seasons with the Blue Jays, is known more for his magnificent defense but became expendable when the club acquired shortstopAledmys Diaz earlier in the evening. Goins hit just .237 with nine home runs and 62 RBI in 143 games. Goins will look to latch onto someones bench, where he can provide stellar defense.
Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Ryan Goins left Wednesday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays with a left forearm injury – he was accidentally stepped on by Rays pitcher Daniel Robertson. Thankfully, the injury doesn't seem to be anything more than minor as Goins is back in the lineup at shortstop to square off with Chris Archer. Goins hasn't done a whole lot when he is on the field this year, though. He owns a .218/.271/.333 slash line with five home runs, 16 doubles, 24 runs scored, 45 RBI, and two stolen bases across 314 plate appearances – mostly filling in for the injured Troy Tulowitzki. If you are actually a fantasy owner of Ryan Goins, now is the time to ask yourself, why?
The Toronto Blue Jays simply can't catch a break at shortstop. Their expected everyday starter at the position, Troy Tulowitzki, is out for the year due to injury and now his replacement, Ryan Goins, had to leave Wednesday's game early with a left forearm injury. He was stepped on (accidentially) by Daniel Robertson in the sixth inning. Darwin Barney took Goins' place at shortstop, but won't carry much fantasy value. Prior to the injury, Going was 1-for-3 with a single. If your fantasy season was truly hinging on the production of Ryan Goins and/or Darwin Barney, it's a safe bet your season is in the tank at this point anyway.
Troy Tulowitzki To Sit Wednesday, Ryan Goins To Start
The Toronto Blue Jays will rest shortstop Troy Tulowitzki Wednesday evening. Tulo has historically been one of the top shortstops in fantasy leagues but has really struggled this season. The shortstop is only hitting .235 with two home runs and 15 RBI. He is still worth owning in all leagues due to his position and he deserves the benefit of the doubt given his career numbers. He is also capable of breaking out at any point. In his place tonight will be infielder Ryan Goins who will bat in the No. 7 spot. The hope is this is just a mental day off for Tulowitzki and that clearing his mind may be what he needs to turn his disappointing season around.
