Ryan Merritt Shut Down From Throwing

Cleveland Indians left-handed pitcher Ryan Merritt is dealing with several injuries, including issues with his knee and his shoulder. Merritt started the season on the disabled list due to his surgically-repaired knee, but recently added shoulder inflammation to his injury list. He'll be totally shut down from throwing for three-to-five days, then will be re-evaluated. He'll be an option in the rotation once he's healthy, but that might take a bit longer than originally expected.

Ryan Merritt Will Start the Season on the Disabled List

Cleveland Indians left handed pitcher Ryan Merritt will start the 2018 season on the disabled list with a tired shoulder. Manager Terry Francona said the issue came from an earlier knee injury that Merritt suffered in the offseason. Merritt is out of options, so he would have had to pass through waivers if he wasn't going to be on the 25-man Opening Day roster, so this DL stint will give them more time to evaluate what to do with the lefty.

Ryan Merritt on the Roster Bubble

Cleveland Indians pitcher Ryan Merritt is on the roster bubble this spring and might have a hard time cracking the 25-man roster coming out of Spring Training. Merritt is out of options, which may complicate things, as Cleveland would risk losing him without any compensation if they choose not to carry him on the Opening Day roster. Merritt has shown flashes of promise at the big league level, but barring any injuries, Cleveland has a full rotation and bullpen. Merritt seems to have long odds to be wearing a Tribe uniform in 2018 once Spring Training ends.

Ryan Merritt May Have To Work Out Of The Bullpen

Cleveland Indians pitcher Ryan Merritt may need to work out of the bullpen this season, according to Zack Meisel of The Athletic. Merritt is out of minor league options, and manager Terry Francona did not sugarcoat anything when he met with him earlier this week. "One, he's most likely next up in line if something happened to somebody," Francona said. "And, two, we don't want to lose him." The southpaw will vie for a rotation spot, but Mike Clevinger, Josh Tomlin and a healthy Danny Salazar seem like more likely candidates to land a starting gig. This is mixed news for fantasy owners, as Merritt has allowed six earned runs in 31 2/3 career MLB innings but has only struck out 13 batters.

Ryan Merritt to Make a Start on Wednesday

Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Ryan Merritt will be called up from Triple-A to start Game 2 of Wednesday's double header against the New York Yankees. Merritt has a sparkling 1.76 ERA in 15 1/3 innings on a major league mound this season, but he's only struck out six batters in that time. His 3.03 ERA in Triple-A shows that he is capable of keeping runs off the board, but the low strikeout upside limits his fantasy usability. He's an AL-only streamer at best for now.

Ryan Merritt To Start on Friday for the Indians

Cleveland Indians pitcher Ryan Merritt will be called up to start Friday's game against the Kansas City Royals. Merritt has been solid in Triple-A this year, posting a 3.03 ERA in 18 starts, but he struggled in his most recent start, lasting just 3 2/3 innings. He's unlikely to have much fantasy relevance but can perhaps be used as a streamer in an AL-only league.

Dan Otero or Ryan Merritt to Start Game 2 of Saturday's Doubleheader

The Cleveland Indians will have either Dan Otero or Ryan Merritt on the mound to start Game 2 of Saturday's double header. Otero will start if he doesn't appear as a relief pitcher on Friday or in Game 1 on Saturday. If Otero does pitch, Merritt will get the nod.

Mike Clevinger and Ryan Merritt Will Start Saturday's Doubleheader

Cleveland Indians starting pitchers Mike Clevinger and Ryan Merritt will start Saturday's day-night doubleheader against the Minnesota Twins on Saturday. Clevinger has been solid this season but was sent to the minors when the Indians schedule didn't require a fifth starter for a few turns of the rotation. He'll be back up on Saturday and should stay up as a member of the rotation. Clevinger is intriguing in AL-only and deep mixed formats because of his strikeout upside, while Merritt can be ignored as a streamer in this spot start.
