Washington Nationals outfielder Ryan Raburn was released, according to Mark Zuckerman of the Washington Post. The 36-year-old had mentioned earlier in camp that he would retire if he did not make the team's Opening Day roster, so we will see if he has any desire to latch on elsewhere or if he willl retire. Raburn was just 2-for-25 (.080) with eight strikeouts in Grapefruit League competition this spring.
Washington Nationals outfielder Ryan Raburn (side) was scratched from the spring lineup for the second straight day Saturday with "left side tightness." Raburn said he hurt himself swinging in batting practice a few days ago, but he's not worried that it's a long-term injury. Raburn hit .261 with two home runs and six RBI in just 25 games for the Nats in 2017, and he struck out a whopping 36.2 percent of the time while walking only 5.8 percent of the time. He's entering his age-37 season and must win a roster spot out of camp as a backup outfielder. There's not much to see here for fantasy purposes.
With Washington Nationals left fielder Jayson Werth (foot) placed on the 10-day disabled list Monday, the Nationals will turn to the recently called up infielder/outfielder Ryan Raburn to fill the void. Raburn is a crafty veteran who offers some pop with his bat. Raburn has hit .274 with four home runs thus far in Triple-A. He will slot into the No. 2 spot tonight and play left field. For now, Raburn can be left on the waiver in most mixed leagues, as he will be competing with outfielder/first baseman Adam Lind and outfielder Brian Goodwin for at-bats while Werth recovers from his injury.
