Jeremy Hellickson Activated From Disabled List, Sammy Solis Optioned
The Washington Nationals have activated Jeremy Hellickson (hamstring) from the 10-day DL Saturday. In a corresponding move, Sammy Solis has been optioned to Triple-A to make room for Hellickson. Although he does not go too far into games, Hellickson has been effective when given the ball and will start Saturday versus Philadelphia. He has pitched in 9 games thus far for the Nationals and holds a fantastic 2.28 ERA and 0.92 WHIP.
Trevor Gott is taking the place of lefty reliever Sammy Solis in the Nationals bullpen. Solis was sent down on Thursday. Gott has gotten tagged for five runs in two innings of major league work this year, so he's not fantasy relevant yet. But the entire Nationals bullpen is worth monitoring since a trade for a top-shelf closer would seem like the right move for Washington.
The Washington Nationals on Thursday began to tinker with their only question mark, their bullpen, heading into the second half of the season. They optioned Sammy Solis, who just came off the DL, to their Triple-A affiliate in Syracuse. Solis allowed eight runs in three innings over four appearances. Opposing batters hit .526 against Solis and posted a 1.624 OPS against him. His two home runs allowed, coupled with two walks, raised his ERA to 14.73 in 7 1/3 innings this season. A corresponding move hasn't been announced to take his spot yet.
Sammy Solis Activated From DL, Immediately Gives Up Home Run
Sammy Solis was activated from the 10-day DL on Saturday and came into the contest to face recent call-up Alex Mejia. On the first pitch, Mejia hit a home run, his first in the major leagues. The return of Solis gives Dusty Baker another lefty weapon out of the pen, which has been horrible this season for the Nats. With Francisco Rodriguez and Kevin Jepsen playing for a big leauge spot in the minors, and Koda Glover rehabbing, the Nats may have themselves a bullpen battle royale in the second half of the season. None of these guys are worth rostering until some clarity develops, so keep an eye on the bullpen situation.
