Trevor Gott To Undergo Tommy John Surgery

Oakland A's reliever Trevor Gott (elbow) is set to undergo Tommy John surgery after being diagnosed with a full torn UCL in his right elbow. The 31-year-old will miss all of the 2024 season and likely a good chunk of the 2025 campaign, as well. Gott split the 2023 season between the Mets and Mariners, working to a 4.14 ERA and a 16.5% K-BB% across 64 appearances, also posting a 3.77 SIERA while limiting home runs to just 0.62 HR/9 in that time. He also posted a 3.34 SIERA in the 2022 season across 45 outings with the Brewers. He was unlikely to be in the mix for saves in the 2023 season but was a holds candidate prior to Friday's news.

Dany Jimenez, Trevor Gott In The Closer Mix

The Oakland Athletics don't have a clear No. 1 option for saves in 2024 and they could look to mix and match between several options. Along with young right-hander Mason Miller, righties Dany Jimenez and Trevor Gott could also be involved. "Dany [Jim nez] is the guy right now who has done it the most. Trevor [Gott] has experience pitching in the back of a game, and when he signed here, we talked about giving him that opportunity. Mason Miller's stuff sort of lends itself to thinking he can close. Those three guys right now are probably the most likely candidates," general manager David Forst said. Jimenez, 30, has the most experience of the trio and has 12 career saves in the last two seasons. He's probably the safest flier for saves on a bad team. Miller, meanwhile, has the best pure upside and stuff, but he' also the riskiest because of his injury history.

Mason Miller, Trevor Gott, Dany Jimenez In Closer Mix

Oakland Athletics general manager David Forst said that right-handers Mason Miller, Trevor Gott and Dany Jimenez will be in the closer mix with spring training approaching quickly. The A's want to see Miller get through a full season healthy, and Forst didn't rule out a return to a starting role for Miller after 2024. The 25-year-old missed most of his rookie season in 2023 due to a UCL sprain in his right elbow. Aside from being a major injury risk -- he has gone over 60 innings only twice since college -- Miller has elite stuff on a really bad team in a favorable pitcher's park. He has the most upside but also the most risk out of Gott and Jimenez, and a closer committee in Oakland is about as unattractive as it gets for fantasy managers speculating on saves from a high-leverage bullpen role.

Trevor Gott Signs With Athletics

Relief pitcher Trevor Gott signed with the Oakland Athletics on Friday. The 31-year-old pitched with the Seattle Mariners and New York Mets last season, appearing in 64 games with a 4.19 ERA. The A's could try to deploy Gott in high-leverage situations, hoping to move him for a prospect at the deadline if he shows well. Trevor May picked up 21 of the 29 saves Oakland tallied last season, so if Gott could somehow secure the closer role, he'd be worth a flier for saves. The righty pitched to a near-average 98 ERA+ in 2023 and a 99 ERA+ in 2022. Keep an eye on his name during the spring, especially in AL-only leagues or deep leagues that use holds as a category.

Trevor Gott Picks Up First Save Of The Season

New York Mets relief pitcher Trevor Gott picked up his first save of the season on Thursday when he pitched a scoreless inning in a 4-2 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. Gott tossed a scoreless ninth inning while giving up two hits, walking none and striking out one to record just his sixth save in eight years in the big leagues. Both Adam Ottavino and Brooks Raley were unavailable on Thursday due to recent heavy workloads, so Gott got the call and delivered for the Mets to close things out. The 30-year-old probably won't see any save chances the rest of the way, but he's been valuable in a late-inning role in New York and hasn't allowed a single run in his last 12 appearances out of the 'pen.

Mets Acquire Chris Flexen, Trevor Gott From Mariners

The New York Mets acquired right-handers Chris Flexen and Trevor Gott from the Seattle Mariners on Monday in exchange for left-hander Zach Muckenhirn, according to sources. Flexen was originally drafted by the Mets and spent the first three seasons of his big-league career with them from 2017-19. The M's designated him for assignment after he posted a rough 7.71 ERA (6.67 FIP) and 1.86 WHIP in 17 appearances (four starts) for them earlier this year. The 29-year-old will likely work in relief in his return to Queens, but he could also be a rotation option down the line. Gott, 30, will provide bullpen relief for the Mets after posting a 4.03 ERA (3.01 FIP), 1.41 WHIP, eight walks and 32 strikeouts in 29 relief innings for Seattle this year. Neither Flexen nor Gott are fantasy options.

Mariners Sign Trevor Gott Monday

The Seattle Mariners signed free-agent relief pitcher Trevor Gott to a one-year deal Monday, per The Seattle Times' Ryan Divish. The deal comes after the Mariners lost right-hander Erik Swanson in an offseason trade for outfielder Teoscar Hernandez. The 30-year-old compiled a 4.14 ERA with 11 holds and four blown saves through 45 2/3 innings in 2022 with the Brewers. Gott has never served in a high-leverage bullpen position throughout his career, so he holds little fantasy relevance.

Trevor Gott Implodes In Ninth Inning Friday

San Francisco Giants relief pitcher Trevor Gott had an awful outing in Friday's 8-7 extra-innings loss to the A's. Gott came on to start the ninth inning up 7-2. He proceeded to allow a solo home run, walk a batter, hit a batter, and allow a game-tying grand slam before getting the hook. Gott only got one out and ended up allowing five runs on the two home runs, the walk, and the hit batter. This only didn't count as a blown save because the Giants were up by so many runs to start the inning. Gott has mainly served as the team's closer but has a poor 8.53 ERA with a 10% strikeout rate. Fantasy players can do better when chasing saves.

Trevor Gott Earns Fourth Save Of Season Saturday

San Francisco Giants relief pitcher Trevor Gott picked up his fourth save of the season in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Dodgers. Gott pitched a scoreless ninth inning with no hits and a walk with no strikeouts. He has now converted all four of his save opportunities with a 1.80 ERA and two strikeouts over five innings pitched. He won't strike out many hitters, but Gott appears to be the Giants closer, making him worth a look in roto leagues.

Trevor Gott Earns Second Save Of Season Sunday

San Francisco Giants relief pitcher Trevor Gott picked up his second save of the season in Sunday's 3-1 win over the Dodgers. Gott allowed a leadoff double to AJ Pollock but then got the next three hitters out, ending the game with a strikeout of Max Muncy. The 27-year-old has now converted both of his save opportunities and owns a 4.50 ERA. The supposed closing duo of Tyler Rogers and Tony Watson has not come to fruition for the Giants to this point, making Gott worth a look in deep roto leagues.
