Scooter Gennett Content To Sit Out 2020 Season

Free-agent second baseman Scooter Gennett said that he's fine with sitting out the 2020 season. Gennett hasn't gotten what he considers a fair offer for his services on the open market this year. The 30-year-old made the All-Star team two years ago with the Cincinnati Reds when he hit .310 (second in the league) with 23 home runs and 93 RBI. It all went downhill when he injured his groin in spring training last year, sidelining him for three months. Gennett returned too early from his injury and hit just .217 in 21 games before being traded to the Giants. He was released by San Francisco after only 21 games. He was expecting offers in the $5 million range this offseason, but the best he got was for $1.5 million and $500,000 in incentives. Unless Gennett unexpectedly receives a better offer with guaranteed money, it sounds like he's unlikely to return to the big leagues.

Cubs Interested In Scooter Gennett

The Chicago Cubs continue to have interest in second baseman Scooter Gennett. Gennett got a late start to the 2019 season due to injury and just could never get on track, hitting an anemic .226/.245/.323 with just two home runs and 11 RBI in 42 games with the Reds and Giants. The 29-year-old did hit a combined 50 home runs in 2017 and 2018 with the Reds, though, and he was an All-Star in 2018 when he slashed .310/.357/.490 with 23 homers and 92 RBI in 154 games. Still, it remains to be seen if Gennett can get back to those heights, and there wouldn't be a guarantee of consistent playing time in Chicago if he signs there.

Scooter Gennett Released by Giants

San Francisco Giants second baseman Scooter Gennett has been released by the organization on Tuesday. Gennett is hitting .226/.245/.323 this season and hasn't shown much promise with the bat. He was sidelined by injuries to begin the season and then just never seemed right once he came back. Mauricio Dubon has been recalled and is expected to take over at second base full time. Dubon is worth a look in deeper formats, while Gennett can be dropped.

Scooter Gennett Goes Yard Sunday, Hitting Better

San Francisco Giants second baseman Scooter Gennett went 2-for-4 with a single, a solo home run, two RBI, and a strikeout in Sunday's 9-6 win over the Phillies. Gennett took Ranger Suarez deep in the sixth inning for his second long ball with his new team. Gennett struggled with the Reds this season but has done better with the Giants, hitting .267 with four RBI in 30 plate appearances. Gennett has been a fantasy All-Star the past two seasons, so he could be a big fantasy value down the stretch if he can continue to heat up.

Scooter Gennett Traded To Giants

The Cincinnati Reds have traded second baseman Scooter Gennett to the San Francisco Giants for a player to be named later. Gennett has been excellent over the past two seasons but has been limited to only 20 games this season and has yet to find his groove, something the Giants are hoping a change of scenery will help expedite. The normally durable 29-year-old slashed .310/.357/.490 with 23 home runs, 86 runs and 92 RBI over 154 games last season, and there are many reasons to believe he can turn his season around and contribute when it matters most for fantasy owners. Mixed league owners should keep a sharp eye on him and if you have a roster spot available, taking a flyer wouldn't be the worst idea. Gennett is owned in just 43 percent of Yahoo leagues currently.

Scooter Gennett Sitting Out Tuesday

Cincinnati Reds second baseman Scooter Gennett is not in the starting lineup on Tuesday. The Reds are being cautious with Gennett after he missed the majority of the first half of the season due to a serious groin injury. Derek Dietrich is at the keystone and is hitting fifth against Cubs right-handed starter Alec Mills. Dietrich is hitting just .216 on the season but has 19 home runs, 38 runs scored and 43 RBI and will be a popular choice against the spot starter Mills in DFS contests. All 19 of Dietrich's homers this year have come against right-handed pitchers.

Scooter Gennett Back in Lineup on Friday

After reinjuring his groin five games after his return from a tear, Cincinnati Reds second baseman Scooter Gennett will be back in the lineup tonight batting fifth against the Colorado Rockies. While only racking up two hits in his five-game return, a trip to Coors Field may be just what the doctor ordered for Gennett, a park where he went 8 for 13 last season with a home run.

Scooter Gennett Leaves Game With Injury

Cincinnati Reds second baseman Scooter Gennett was forced from Wednesday's game in the fourth inning with left groin tightness. He dove for a ball in the defensive half of the second inning which could have been the cause for the injury. Gennett has missed all but five games this season with a right groin tear, so it's not encouraging news, although they've yet to announce the severity. It would be a frustrating loss for all fantasy owners who have stashed him since spring training if he were to end up back on the injured list. Stay tuned for more information as the Reds will likely announce more on Gennett's status post-game.

Scooter Gennett Sits on Sunday

Cincinnati Reds second baseman Scooter Gennett (rest) is out of the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Chicago Cubs. Gennett recently returned from the injured list, but will get the day off against the left-handed starter. Jose Peraza will draw the start at second base and bat seventh versus lefty Jon Lester. Peraza has been hitting better lately, but isn't worth the risk in DFS contests.

Scooter Gennett Goes 1-For-4 In Return

Cincinnati Reds second baseman Scooter Gennett (groin) was activated from the injured list on Friday and went 1-for-4 with a strikeout in his season debut against the Cubs. Catcher Tucker Barnhart (oblique) was put on the injured list in a corresponding move with a right oblique strain. Barnhart hasn't been fantasy relevant while hitting just .191/.290/.315 on the season. Don't be surprised if Gennett is a little cold initially after a long layoff, but his power stroke at the keystone (50 homers in the last two years) will be valuable in all leagues. The Reds will have to get a little more creative with Derek Dietrich's playing time now that Gennett is back in the fold.
