Sergio Romo Officially Retires With Giants

San Francisco Giants relief pitcher Sergio Romo officially retired with the team after making one final appearance during a Cactus League game against the Oakland Athletics on Monday. Romo pitched in the big leagues for 15 seasons with eight different teams and won three World Series rings. He was originally selected by the Giants in the 28th round of the 2005 draft. The 40-year-old reliever spent nine seasons in San Francisco, going 32-26 with a 2.58 ERA and 84 saves in 515 games. He made a franchise-record 27 playoff appearances for the team, most notably securing the save in the World Series-clinching victory over the Detroit Tigers in 2012.

Sergio Romo Signs Minor-League Deal With Giants

The San Francisco Giants agreed to a minor-league deal with free-agent relief pitcher Sergio Romo on Thursday that will include an invite to major-league spring training. If all goes according to plan, the Giants will work with Romo to build up his arm strength to appear in a couple exhibition games before calling it a career. The 40-year-old right-hander said he hasn't done anything since last September. Romo will return to the team that he won three World Series championships with, spending the first nine seasons of his career with the Giants. In his 15-year career, Romo had a 3.21 ERA (3.33 FIP), 1.05 WHIP, 137 saves and a 27 percent strikeout rate in 722 2/3 innings pitched in the regular season.

Sergio Romo Becomes A Free Agent

Veteran reliever Sergio Romo has cleared waivers. He has chosen to refuse his outright assignment to Triple-A, electing for free agency instead. The 39-year-old was designated for assignment by the Toronto Blue Jays this past Saturday. The Jays were the second team to DFA him this year after his first club of 2022, the Seattle Mariners, DFA'd him in late June. It's been a rough year for the right-hander, who has pitched to a 7.50 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP across 18 innings.

Sergio Romo Joins Blue Jays

The Toronto Blue Jays signed free-agent relief pitcher Sergio Romo to an undisclosed major league contract on Monday, according to league sources. Romo was granted his release by the Seattle Mariners last week after allowing 13 earned runs on 18 hits (six home runs allowed) while walking four and striking out 11 in 14 1/3 innings over 17 relief appearances for the Mariners. The 39-year-old veteran is nearing the end of his career and is unlikely to have much more than a low-leverage role out of Toronto's bullpen if he sticks in the majors the rest of this year.

Mariners Designate Sergio Romo For Assignment

The Seattle Mariners designated relief pitcher Sergio Romo for assignment on Monday. The veteran appeared in 17 games for Seattle, throwing 14.1 innings and pitching to an 8.16 ERA, a 7.87 FIP, 11 strikeouts, and four walks. Romo also turned in four holds. The Mariners also designated reliever Roenis Elias for assignment as they needed to make room on the active roster for infielder Kevin Padlo and relief pitcher Ken Giles. Paldo was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma while Giles was reinstated from the 60-day injured list.

Sergio Romo Heads To Mariners

Free-agent relief pitcher Sergio Romo agreed to a one-year deal with a base salary of $2 million with the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday, pending a physical. Romo will receive a $250,000 bonus. The 39-year-old veteran reliever will stick in the big leagues for his 15th major league season in 2022. He had a 4.67 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, 60 strikeouts, 21 walks and three saves in 61 2/3 relief outings for the Oakland Athletics in 2021. Romo also had 12 holds in his 66 appearances. Seattle currently has Drew Steckenrider and Paul Sewald as co-closers, while Diego Castillo and Ken Giles will serve as setup men. It's hard to see Romo having a ton of fantasy value outside of deep holds leagues as a middle-relief option in Seattle.

Sergio Romo Suffers Blown Save Sunday Versus Angels

Oakland Athletics relief pitcher Sergio Romo took his fourth blown save of the season Sunday versus the Angels as the A's bullpen continues to limp to the finish line. To be fair, this one wasn't all on Romo as his defense let him down and one of his two runs was unearned. Still, he retired just one of the four batters he faced before being lifted for Lou Trivino. Romo has earned three saves recently for the A's, but the bullpen has been a mess as Andrew Chafin is also been in the mix, as well as Trivino who was the closer for most of the season. Chafin has been the best reliever and was unavailable in this game so he is the best A's reliever to roster in fantasy for those chasing saves.

Andrew Chafin, Sergio Romo Implode For A's On Saturday

Oakland Athletics relief pitchers Andrew Chafin and Sergio Romo combined for one of the worst innings of the season for the A's, as they allowed five runs to turn a feel-good afternoon into a miserable loss. Starter Cole Irvin silenced Texas across seven innings and Oakland had to feel good heading into the eighth inning with a four-run cushion. Romo changed that, however, as he retired just two of the six batters he faced and was charged with four earned runs. Chafin couldn't clean up Romo's mess as he also served up a homer to take the loss. Romo and Chafin had been the most trusted arms in the 'pen for manager Bob Melvin, so it's anyone's guess who gets the next A's save. Former closer Lou Trivino is an option, but keep an eye on Jake Diekman who has eight saves on the season and a 2.93 ERA over his last 17 appearances.

Sergio Romo Serves Up Three-Run Homer To Blow Save Friday

Oakland Athletics relief pitcher Sergio Romo allowed a three-run homer to suffer the blown save Friday at Toronto. Oakland led this game by six runs at one point, but after Lou Trivino and Yusmeiro Petit were ineffective, manager Bob Melvin turned to the veteran Romo who allowed two hits before serving up a three-run shot to Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Romo had earned two saves while Trivino was sidelined with a back injury, but this performance could mean someone else gets the next save chance for Oakland.

Sergio Romo Collects Second Save Of Season Thursday At Detroit

Oakland Athletics relief pitcher Sergio Romo pitched a scoreless ninth inning on Thursday to collect the save against the Tigers. It was Romo's second save of the series as Lou Trivino (back) has been sidelined with back spasms. Romo seems to be the closer-of-choice in Trivino's absence as the former Giant has been good in a setup role for manager Bob Melvin all season long. Romo is sporting a 3.18 ERA and a solid 25.2% strikeout rate and brings postseason experience to the closer role from his time on the San Francisco title teams of yesteryear. Jake Diekman earned saves earlier in the season and Andrew Chafin is in the mix, but fantasy managers hunting saves can take a flier on Romo keeping the job, especially if Trivino requires an IL stint.
