Thomas Eshelman News
The San Diego Padres have reportedly signed pitcher Thomas Eshelman to a minor league deal, according to MLB Network's Jon Heyman. Eshelman previously appeared in parts of three seasons for the Baltimore Orioles from 2019 to 2021. His most successful season came in 2020 when he pitched to a 3.89 ERA, a 5.76 FIP, 16 strikeouts, and nine walks in 34.2 innings. He threw 27.2 innings for the O's last season, striking out 11 batters while surrendering 22 earned runs and 10 walks in 27.2 innings of work. The right-hander will give the Padres some bullpen depth heading into the season. San Diego's current late-inning options include Emilio Pagan, Drew Pomeranz, Tim Hill, Pierce Johnson, Craig Stammen, and Austin Adams.
Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Thomas Eshelman did not fare well in Wednesday's 13-0 loss to the Astros. Eshelman pitched just four innings, allowing six runs on eight hits (including a two-run home run) and a walk with one strikeout. The 27-year-old has had a rough two starts with the O's, compiling a 7.27 ERA with two HR allowed through 8 2/3 IP. Like most O's pitchers, Eshelman offers little fantasy value at this time. His next start will be a rematch with the Astros on the road.
The Baltimore Orioles have called up right-handed pitcher Thomas Eshelman to make his 2021 debut in Friday's game. He'll be the starting pitcher as the team faces the Toronto Blue Jays. The team placed fellow starting pitcher Bruce Zimmermann (bicep) on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. The 26-year-old Eshelman had a 3.89 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP over 12 appearances (four starts) in 2020. He was struggling at Triple-A before Friday's call-up as he had a 6.41 ERA over six games (three starts).
