Chicago Cubs relief pitcher Tim Collins was optioned by the organization last week and refused an assignment to Triple-A. He will now become a free agent after declining the option to play in the minors. Collins had a 3.12 ERA in nine appearances with the Cubs, but could possibly get a minor league or major league option elsewhere. However, he's not a late inning reliever, so he doesn't hold much fantasy value.
Chicago Cubs relief pitchers Dillon Maples and Tim Collins have been recalled from Triple-A Iowa on Saturday. Maples has electric stuff, but his control still isn't there as he has five walks in 2 2/3 innings this season with the Cubs. The veteran lefty Collins pitched well in the minors, but doesn't have much fantasy value. Righty reliever James Norwood and outfielder Mark Zagunis have been optioned to the minors in a corresponding move. Maples could have some fantasy value if the Cubs give him save chances, but he needs to figure out his control problems first.
