Orioles
Baltimore Orioles right-hander Travis Lakins Sr. (elbow) had successful surgery to fix a recurrent olecranon stress fracture in his right elbow. The surgery was performed by Dr. Steve Shin on Tuesday. Lakins wasn't a fantasy option to begin with and was injured in his first start of the season when he was removed from the game after walking three of the six hitters he faced. The 27-year-old is unlikely to play again this season after the surgery and has a career-high 5.79 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 24/17 K/BB in 24 appearances (one start) over 28 innings pitched.

Travis Lakins Sr. Has Significant Elbow Injury
Baltimore Orioles right-hander Travis Lakins Sr. (elbow) is dealing with a significant elbow injury, according to manager Brandon Hyde. Lakins was forced to leave his first start of the season on Tuesday against the Houston Astros after he allowed one run while walking three of the six hitters he faced in just 1 2/3 innings. Don't expect him to be back in Baltimore anytime soon, and when he does return, he's likely to go back to a low-leverage relief role since he's made only four starts in his major league career since 2019. Lakins is currently 1-4 on the season with a 5.79 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and weak 19.5 percent strikeout rate in 28 innings pitched. He belongs on the waiver wire in every single fantasy format.

In corresponding moves, the team selected the contract of right-hander Spenser Watkins and recalled Isaac Mattson from Triple-A Norfolk. Alexander Wells was optioned to Norfolk and Stevie Wilkerson was designated for assignment. Lakins was making the spot start (his first start of the season) on Wednesday, but he left the game after walking three of the first six hitters. The 26-year-old is 1-4 with a 5.79 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 24 strikeouts in 28 innings in 24 outings (one start) this year and shouldn't be rostered in fantasy.

Travis Lakins Sr. Dealing With Elbow Discomfort
Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Travis Lakins Sr. (elbow) left his start early on Tuesday against the Houston Astros with right elbow discomfort. Lakins allowed an earned run on one hit while walking three and hitting a batter in just 1 2/3 frames before departing the contest. The outing raised his ERA to 5.79 on the season and his WHIP to 1.42 in 28 innings of work over 24 appearances, with Tuesday's outing being his only start of the season. Lakins has now struck out 24 and walked 17 in 2021. The extent of his elbow injury is still unknown, but Lakins will be a poor fantasy streamer if the Orioles give him another start down the line.

He allowed one run on one hit and three walks while striking out none across one 1/3 innings before exiting. The severity of his injury is unknown at this time and he's considered day-to-day. Lakins owns a 5.79 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, and 24 strikeouts across 28 innings in 2021. An update on Lakins should be provided by the Orioles after the game. Stay tuned.

Travis Lakins Sr. To Start Against Astros On Tuesday
Baltimore Orioles right-hander Travis Lakins Sr. will make the start on his 27th birthday on Tuesday night against the Houston Astros. Lakins has made 23 relief appearances (26 1/3 innings) for the Orioles this year, posting a 5.81 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 24/14 K/BB, but he did toss four scoreless innings against the Toronto Blue Jays only five days ago. He has made only three starts in his major league career previously, and all three came back in his rookie season with the Boston Red Sox in 2019. Lakins has gone over two innings of relief just twice this year in his last two outings, so he's a poor bet to go deep in this ballgame. We recommend avoiding him as a streamer, especially against one of the stronger offenses in baseball.
