Trevor Williams Activated And Starting On Friday

Washington Nationals right-hander Trevor Williams (elbow) was activated from the 60-day injured list on Friday and is starting at Wrigley Field against the hosting Chicago Cubs. Williams was looking excellent earlier this year before suffering a flexor strain in his right elbow and missing the last four months. Because of all the time away, the 32-year-old veteran will be a pretty risky fantasy streamer on the road on Friday. He was able to get up to 73 pitches in his last minor-league rehab start, though, so he should be pretty stretched out in his return to Washington's starting rotation. In his first 11 starts in 2024 before getting hurt, Williams had gone 5-0 with a 2.22 ERA (2.82 FIP) and a 1.08 WHIP with 47 strikeouts and 16 walks over his 56 2/3 innings thrown. Williams' last start for the Nats came all the way back on May 30.

Trevor Williams Expected To Return This Weekend

MASN's Mark Zuckerman writes that it's looking good for Washington Nationals right-hander Trevor Williams (elbow) to come off the injured list to rejoin the team this weekend in Chicago at Wrigley Field for their series against the Chicago Cubs. After getting up to 73 pitches in his most recent minor-league rehab start with Double-A Harrisburg on Sunday, the 32-year-old appears primed to rejoin Washington's starting rotation this weekend in Chicago. Because of the fact that he has been out of action since late May with a right-flexor strain in his elbow, Williams will be a risky fantasy streamer for anyone still playing for a championship. However, Williams was having an excellent start to the year before going down, posting a perfect 5-0 record, a 2.22 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and a 47:16 K:BB in his 11 starts covering 56 2/3 innings.

Trevor Williams To Make Rehab Start On Tuesday

Washington Nationals right-hander Trevor Williams (elbow) has faced live hitters twice in the last week-plus and is now scheduled to throw four innings or build up to 65 to 70 pitches in a minor-league rehab start with Double-A Harrisburg on Tuesday in what will be his first competitive game since May 30. Williams has been out since late May with a flexor strain in his elbow. Barring a setback during what is expected to be a brief rehab assignment, Williams could rejoin the big-league rotation to make perhaps a couple of starts at the end of September. Manager Dave Martinez has said Williams probably needs to get up to 80 pitches before he comes off the 60-day injured list, so he'll need more than one rehab start. The 32-year-old veteran had bounced back from a rough 2023 to go 5-0 with a 2.22 ERA and 1.08 WHIP with 47 K's in 56 2/3 frames over 11 starts earlier this year before getting hurt.

Trevor Williams Throws Bullpen Session

Washington Nationals starting pitcher Trevor Williams (forearm) threw a bullpen session of 20 fastballs on Wednesday. Williams was placed on the 15-day injured list on June 4 due to a right flexor muscle strain, and he's been working his way back ever since. Manager Dave Martinez is hopeful he can return to pitch for the Nationals in the final month of the season in September. The 32-year-old veteran right-hander was pushing for his first career All-Star nod before going down, posting a 2.22 ERA and 1.07 WHIP with 47 strikeouts and 16 walks across 56 2/3 innings from Washington's rotation this year. Even so, Williams is hard to stash in fantasy leagues without a significant amount of time left in the year to be a factor.

Trevor Williams Throwing At 125 Feet

Washington Nationals right-hander Trevor Williams (elbow) is throwing at 125 feet and could throw a bullpen session next week. "He is feeling better, it's just been a slow process," manager Dave Martinez said. Williams was placed on the 15-day injured list back on June 4 (retroactive to June 1). The 32-year-old suffered a right-flexor muscle strain earlier this year at the worst possible time, as he was 5-0 with a 2.22 ERA (2.81 FIP), a 1.08 WHIP, 47 strikeouts and only 16 walks in 56 2/3 innings over his first 11 starts. It's good news that he is close to getting back on a mound, but given the length of time away from pitching, he's going to need a long ramp-up process and probably won't be much of a fantasy option over the final two months of the season as the Nats play out the string. Williams may not be able to return to Washington's starting rotation until the final month of the season in September.

Nationals Place Trevor Williams On 15-Day Injured List

The Washington Nationals placed right-hander Trevor Williams (forearm) on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to June 1) on Tuesday with a right flexor strain and recalled left-handed pitching prospect DJ Herz from Triple-A Rochester in a corresponding move. Williams was scheduled to make the start on Tuesday against the visiting division-rival New York Mets, but that task will now fall to Herz in what will be his major-league debut. Given the nature of Williams' injury, the 32-year-old veteran will likely be out for more than two weeks. It's a tough blow for the Nats and fantasy managers, as Williams has been unexpectedly consistent so far in 2024, going 5-0 with a 2.22 ERA and 1.08 WHIP with 47 punchouts in 56 2/3 innings over his 11 starts.

Trevor Williams Solid Again In Tuesday's No-Decision

Washington Nationals starting pitcher Trevor Williams continued his dominant season in Tuesday's Game 1 6-3 win over the White Sox. Williams pitched five innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits (including a solo home run) and a walk with two strikeouts. The 32-year-old has put together a career season, going 4-0 with a 1.94 ERA in eight starts and 41 2/3 IP. His next start will be a tough matchup at the Phillies. Fantasy managers may want to sit him despite his strong numbers.

Trevor Williams Strikes Out Eight, Picks Up Fourth Win

Washington Nationals right-hander Trevor Williams (4-0) allowed two hits while striking out eight across five scoreless innings in Tuesday's 3-0 win over the Baltimore Orioles. Williams picked up his fourth win of the season. The 32-year-old threw 77 pitches, landing 53 for strikes. He struck out a season-high eight batters and has not allowed a home run in his previous seven starts, helping the Nationals go over .500 for the first time since 2021. Williams owns a 1.96 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, and a 30:12 K: BB across 36 2/3 innings in 2024. The veteran will look to continue his strong season and can be used as a streamer at his next start on Monday on the road against the Chicago White Sox.

Trevor Williams Dances Around Trouble Against Rangers

Washington Nationals starting pitcher Trevor Williams held the defending-champion Texas Rangers in check in Wednesday's surprising 1-0 road victory, working around five hits and a season-high four walks to launch five scoreless innings with three strikeouts. After a spotless opening inning, Williams tiptoed around plenty of trouble over his 79 pitches but was able to escape with his third win of the campaign to remain unbeaten. The soft-throwing 32-year-old right-hander now holds a steady 2.27 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and 22:12 K:BB across 31 2/3 frames (six starts) out of Washington's rotation this season. A tough test awaits Williams in Tuesday's scheduled start against the visiting Baltimore Orioles and right-hander Corbin Burnes at Nationals Park for the first outing of a two-game Beltway Series. The O's have hit an MLB-high 45 home run in 30 games, making Williams a tough sell as a fantasy streamer.

Trevor Williams Yet To Report To Camp

Washington Nationals right-hander Trevor Williams is the only healthy pitcher who has not reported to spring training yet, as he remains home in San Diego waiting for his wife to give birth to the couple's first child. Barring another addition to the roster, Williams is penciled in as the team's No. 5 starter and is expected to arrive at camp within the next few days. Based on what general manager Mike Rizzo said, the 31-year-old shouldn't face any competition for his rotation spot to open the 2024 season. He won't really be of much consideration in mixed fantasy leagues, though, after posting a 5.55 ERA and 1.60 WHIP in 144 1/3 innings for the Nationals last season. When former first-rounder Cade Cavalli (elbow) makes his season debut at some point this summer, it could push Williams to a long-relief role.
