Trey Wingenter Sticking With Tigers

Relief pitcher Trey Wingenter signed a minor-league deal to stay with the Detroit Tigers. The deal has an invitation to Spring Training. Wingenter has a career 3.82 FIP. His 5.28 ERA over 90 games isn't as promising as his FIP, but his 121 strikeouts in 87 innings show his potential. The 29-year-old doesn't hold any fantasy relevance currently, but if he can harness some of his stuff, he could make his way to high-leverage situations in Detroit. Wingenter produced a 102 Stuff+ last season. His slider game in at 112, indicating he has at least one above-average major league pitch to work with. That could help him in his bid for a roster spot this spring.

Trey Wingenter Undergoes Tommy John Surgery

San Diego Padres reliever Trey Wingenter (elbow) underwent Tommy John surgery on Friday. The 26-year-old posted a career 5.14 ERA across two seasons as a power reliever for the Friars and held minimal fantasy value. He likely wont pitch again until 2022. While the Padres bullpen remains a team strength, Wingenters injury opens more opportunities for youngsters Michel Baez and Adrian Morejon. Both pitchers figure to work in middle relief and wont factor in most standard fantasy formats.

Trey Wingenter Shut Down With Elbow Irritation

San Diego Padres reliever Trey Wingenter (elbow) is dealing with irritation in his throwing elbow and will be shut down. Hell be tested again in five days. The 26-year-old has been a strikeout artist for the Friars with a 12.7 K/9 over the past two years, but posted an ugly 5.65 ERA last season due to a horrendous 58 percent strand rate. Wingenter was a fringe option for the Friars crowded bullpen and isnt fantasy relevant. Rookie relievers Michel Baez and Adrian Morejon should absorb more innings if Wingenter misses extended time.

Trey Wingenter Opening On Wednesday

San Diego Padres pitcher Trey Wingenter will serve as the opener against the Dodgers on Wednesday. Wingenter is 1-3 this year with a 4.60 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 63 strikeouts in 45 innings in 46 relief outings. He does have nice strikeout upside, but he's one to avoid in what will be a one- or two-inning outing against one of the most dangerous lineups in baseball.

Trey Wingenter Demoted To Triple-A

The San Diego Padres optioned reliever Trey Wingenter to Triple-A on Sunday. Along with outfielder Josh Naylor, Wingenter was demoted to make room for top pitching prospects Michel Baez and Adrian Morejon. With a 12.6 K/9, the 25-year-old Wingenter offered tantalizing strikeout potential but lacked consistent control and was hit hard often. Hell look to make tweaks in the minors before a probable return later this season.

Nick Margevicius Optioned, Trey Wingenter Activated

The San Diego Padres optioned starting pitcher Nick Margevicius to Double-A Amarillo on Sunday and activated right-handed reliever Trey Wingenter (shoulder). The 22-year-old Margevicius earned a surprise roster spot in spring training and began the season well but has floundered with an 8.59 ERA in three May starts. Hell likely get another shot later this season if he works out his kinks in the minors. Wingenter returns after a nearly three-week stint on the IL and will serve as a key middle reliever ahead of closer Kirby Yates. Wingenter holds a 2.93 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 13.2 K/9. He could be a high-strikeout fantasy option in deeper and holds leagues.

Trey Wingenter Lands On 10-Day Injured List

The San Diego Padres placed relief pitcher Trey Wingenter (shoulder) on the 10-day injured list on Sunday, retroactive to May 4, due to a strained right shoulder. The team recalled pitcher Phil Maton from Triple-A El Paso in the corresponding move. Maton is expected to work in middle relief. Wingenter will be missed in manager Andy Green's bullpen, as he has a 2.93 ERA and 0.98 WHIP across 15 1/3 innings with seven holds and 21 strikeouts across 16 relief appearances. Wingenter has emerged as a solid NL-only fantasy option in rotisserie formats using true middle relievers.

Trey Wingenter Poaches First Career Save

San Diego Padres reliever Trey Wingenter recorded his first career save Thursday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. With closer Kirby Yates unavailable, Wingenter was shaky with two walks but struck out two D-Backs to preserve the one-run victory. The 24-year-old fireballer has been a staple in the Friars bullpen, holding a 3.00 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and nine strikeouts in six frames this season, but save opportunities should remain infrequent.
