The New York Mets have purchased the contract of pitcher Vance Worley from Kane County of the Independent League. He has not pitched in the MLB since the 2017 season. Worley posted a 4.01 ERA in five starts with Kane County this season. It sounds like Worley is going to head to Triple-A and serve as organizational depth. Possibly, Worley gets a spot start or two at some point, but he won't be a fantasy option.
The New York Mets added some organizational depth on Thursday, signing pitchers Vance Worley and Scott Copeland to minor league deals. Neither figure to be major contributors for the Amazins, but stranger things have happened. Worley is coming off a disastrous 2017 that saw him get shelled to the tune of a 6.91 ERA across 71 1/3 innings pitched for the Miami Marlins. Copeland, also with the Marlins organization in 2017, pitched exclusively in Triple-A New Orleans and racked up a 4.97 ERA. The Mets also released pitcher A.J. Griffin, who was with their Triple-A affiliate in Las Vegas and allowed 16 runs in just three innings pitched this year. Theres no fantasy significance for any of these moves.
The Cincinnati Reds reassigned right-hander Vance Worley to minor league camp on Wednesday. Worley was in camp as a non-roster invitee for the Reds and turned in a 6.17 ERA in 11 2/3 innings this spring. The 30-year-old was once thought to have a bright future but really struggled in 24 appearances with the Miami Marlins in 2017. In 71 2/3 innings, Worley posted a 2-6 record, 6.91 ERA, and 50 strikeouts. He's expected to work in relief in Triple-A and isn't expected to be much more than organizational depth in 2018.
Free-agent pitcher Vance Worley signed with the Cincinnati Reds on a minor league contract Tuesday. The deal comes with an invitation to spring training, and Zach Buchanan of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that Worley can earn $1.5 million if he is able to make the club. Worley had a season to forget with the Marlins in 2017, registering a 6.91 ERA in 71 2/3 innings and striking out just 50 hitters in that time frame. He will be given a chance to possibly earn the fifth spot in the Cincinnati rotation with a chance to make the bullpen if he is not named one of the five starters.
Vance Worley Aims For Third Straight Win On Sunday
Starting pitcher Vance Worley will toe the slab for the Miami Marlins on Sunday as the Fish try to complete the sweep against the Colorado Rockies. Worley, who's filled in the starting rotation while the Marlins have dealt with a myriad of injuries, has been surprisingly strong in his last two outings. In his two starts this month, Worley is 2-0 with a 0.69 ERA. He's also lowered his ERA by nearly 1.50 since the end of July, and he'll look to keep that going against German Marquez and the Rockies.
Vance Worley Tosses Gem To Earn First Win Of The Season
Vance Worley was nearly unhittable on Wednesday as the Miami Marlins starter threw seven shutout innings against the Nationals. Worley, in search of his first win of the year as he entered the game, allowed just two hits and struck out three as the Marlins crushed the Nats 7-0. While Worley isn't even worth a second look on the waiver wire, he could surprise everyone with another quality start the next time he takes the mound. On the season, he's 1-2 with a 5.31 ERA.
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Vance Worley hasn't done much to boost the Marlins' rotation since joining it a week ago. Worley fell to 0-2 after losing to the Angels on Saturday. He wasn't bad, giving up two runs on two hits and no walks. He also struck out only two batters and lasted just five innings. Worley won't get blown up very often, but he simply doesn't have much to offer fantasy owners. He owns a career 6.72 K/9 and doesn't figure to win too many games for a marginal Miami team, so consider him only in NL-only leagues.
Vance Worley Makes Season Debut Against Dodgers On Sunday
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Vance Worley will make his 2017 debut for the team on Sunday. Worley, who worked as both a starter and a reliever last season, was called up from Triple-A New Orleans while the Marlins look to fill the voids in their starting rotation. Worley finished 2-2 with a 3.53 ERA and a save last season as a member of the Baltimore Orioles. He'll face a tough L.A. Dodgers offense that ranks in the top 10 in average, on-base percentage, slugging and OPS. It's safe to say he's an incredibly risky streamer Sunday.
