Wilmer Flores News
The San Francisco Giants agreed to a multi-year deal with infielder Wilmer Flores on Tuesday, according to sources familiar with the deal. Flores hit .317/.361/.487 with the Diamondbacks in 2019 and could play either second base or a utility role for the Giants in 2020. He'll be competing with the likes of Mauricio Dubon, Donovan Solano and Yolmer Sanchez at the keystone, so it wouldn't be far-fetched to see Flores see significant time at second base. The 28-year-old is a career .268/.310/.432 hitter with 77 home runs and 290 RBI in seven years with the Mets and Diamondbacks. Flores could provide nice multi-position eligibility for fantasy owners in deep mixed and NL-only leagues if he sees enough at-bats.
The market for free-agent infielder Wilmer Flores is starting to move, according to sources. With the free-agent market for hitters really thinning out at this point in the offseason, Flores is one of the more attractive utility men still available. The 28-year-old had just 265 at-bats with the Diamondbacks in 89 games last year due to injury, but he was great when on the field with a .317/.361/.487 slash line, nine home runs and 37 RBI for the D-backs. He's unlikely to hit for that high of an average in a full season's worth of at-bats, but Flores can be a decent utility man for fantasy owners in single-universe leagues, depending on where he lands and how much playing time he receives.
The Arizona Diamondbacks declined their team option on infielder Wilmer Flores and pitcher T.J. McFarland on Thursday, making them both free agents. Flores played in just 89 games for the Snakes in 2019 because of injury, but he was solid when on the field, hitting .317/.361/.487 with nine home runs and 37 RBI in 265 at-bats. The Venezuelan utility man hits lefties well and offers valuable versatility on the field in deep mixed and single-universe leagues. It remains to be seen where he'll land, but he could have some appeal to fantasy owners because of his flexibility in 2020.
