Zach McAllister Joins Cardinals On Minor League Deal
The St. Louis Cardinals signed right-handed pitcher Zach McAllister to a minor league deal. He will report to Spring Training with the major league club. The 34-year-old hasn't pitched in the majors since 2018. He's cycled through the minor leagues while part of various organizations including the Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies. We'll see if he can work his way back up to the majors this year. Over 280 career MLB games, he has a 29-35 record to go along with a 4.09 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP.
The Texas Rangers granted pitcher Zach McAllister his unconditionally release on Monday. The 31-year-old right-hander will try and catch on with another organization, but it's highly unlikely he'll have a very meaningful role. He hasn't been a regular part of a rotation since 2014 with the Cleveland Indians. If he finds work elsewhere, it's likely he'll have to accept working out of the bullpen at the Triple-A level before earning his way back to the majors. He posted a 6.20 ERA over 45 combined innings between Cleveland and Detroit last season, so it's unlikely his phone will be ringing off the hook.

McAllister was an important part of the Cleveland bullpen in 2017, posting a 2.61 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and 66/21 K/BB ratio in 62 innings. He'll return to a middle-relief role in 2018.

McAllister had a strong season out of the bullpen last year for the Tribe. Over 62 innings, hehad a 2.61 ERA with 66 strikeouts. He will be eligible to reach free agency next season. He holds no value in fantasy leagues.
