Dallas Mavericks shooting guard A. J. Lawson was unconscious in Friday's Summer League matchup against Indiana, hitting 10-for-12 from the field en route to a game-high 24 points. He finished 2-for-3 from three-point range after previously having struggled from deep all summer. Lawson, who celebrates his 23rd birthday Saturday, had an impact on defense as well with two steals, and he grabbed four rebounds while playing 28 minutes without a single turnover. Lawson has proven himself as a versatile player and must be desperate to earn more playing time in the NBA after suiting up for just 14 games for the Mavericks last season. He has been a 20-point scorer in the G League and also notched 8.8 rebounds and 1.7 steals last season.
A.J. Lawson Signing Two-Way Deal With Timberwolves
The Minnesota Timberwolves are signing forward A.J. Lawson to a two-way contract, according to Shams Charania. Lawson had a strong Summer League showing as a member of the Dallas Mavericks' Summer League squad. Over five games, he averaged 15.6 points and 6.0 rebounds per game while shooting 50% from three-point range on 5.2 attempts per game. Lawson is 6'6" and 22 years old. He played three years of college basketball at South Carolina, then went undrafted in 2021. He proceeded to spend a year in the G League and then he played in the Canadian Elite Basketball League last year.
