According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, guard Edmond Sumner has agreed to a one-year contract with the Charlotte Hornets. The 27-year-old joins his third NBA team after starting his career in Indiana and playing for the Nets. After missing the entire 2021-22 campaign with an Achilles injury, Sumner had 7.1 points in 13.9 minutes across 53 games with the Nets last season. He will battle for a spot at the end of the bench in Charlotte.
Brooklyn Nets guard Edmond Sumner (glute) was originally listed as questionable for the Wednesday night contest against the Charlotte Hornets. He's been dealing with a glute contusion that forced him to miss the team's last game on Sunday. A couple of hours before tipoff, he's now listed as available. Ever since Kyrie Irving returned, the 26-year-old hasn't seen much playing time. He's only fantasy relevant in much deeper leagues or if someone else gets hurt from the starting lineup.
Brooklyn Nets guard Edmond Sumner (hip) "has a chance" to play in Wednesday's season-opener against the Pelicans. The 26-year-old is expected to receive some minutes early in the season while Seth Curry (ankle) and Joe Harris (foot) work their way back from their respective surgeries. With that said, his absence likely won't impact managers, especially since he probably isn't on many fantasy rosters. Nonetheless, if Sumner is officially ruled out, Cam Thomas may earn additional time on the floor, at least enough to warrant consideration in deeper formats.
Brooklyn Trades For Edmond Sumner, Then Waives Him
Point/shooting guard Edmond Sumner (Achilles) was dealt from the Indiana Pacers to the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday, but he was ultimately waived in a cost-cutting move for the franchise. Sumner was announced to be out indefinitely with a torn Achilles tendon back in September, ruling him out for the entirety of the 2021-22 season. Indiana chose to move Sumner and sign veteran Brad Wanamaker to fill his roster spot. Sumner had begun to come into his own last year, starting a career-high 24 games for the Pacers en route to averaging 7.5 points per game. For now, the 25-year-old remains a free agent with a return ETA of late 2022/early 2023.
Malcolm Brogdon, Aaron Holiday, Edmond Sumner Available
Indiana Pacers guards Malcolm Brogdon (hamstring), Aaron Holiday (toe), and Edmond Sumner (knee) will be available for Tuesday's game against the Charlotte Hornets. It sounds like the Pacers will get some reinforcements for the play-in game. Brogdon is likely going to be eased back into rotation, so fantasy managers shouldn't expect more than 20 minutes from him here. Justin Holiday, Kelan Martin and Cassius Stanley won't have much streaming appeal with Holiday and Sumner back in the rotation.
Indiana Pacers guard Edmond Sumner (knee) will miss his second consecutive game while working his way back from a bruise on his left knee. The 25-year-old will join Malcolm Brogdon (hamstring) and Jeremy Lamb (knee) on the sidelines against Milwaukee as the team will likely continue to leave most of the ball-handling duties to Caris Levert and T.J. McConnell on Thursday night. LeVert should be one of the main threats on the offensive end, but fantasy managers should keep McConnell on the radar as a high-risk/high-reward option.
Indiana Pacers guard Malcolm Brogdon (hamstring) and Edmond Sumner (knee) will not suit up for Tuesday's game against the Philadelphia 76ers. Brogdon continues to deal with a lingering hamstring issue, so it's uncertain when he'll get back on the court. Sumner attempted to play on Monday, but only lasted 13 minutes. Aaron Holiday and T.J. McConnell will be asked to pick up the slack on Tuesday. McConnell is the better fantasy option between the two guards.
Indiana Pacers guards Malcolm Brogdon (hamstring) and Edmond Sumner (knee) have been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Atlanta Hawks. Brogdon has now missed four games in a row and it's uncertain when he'll get back on the court. Both Sumner and Jeremy Lamb (knee) will join him on the sideline for this one. Doug McDermott, T.J. McConnell, and Aaron Holiday will be asked to fill the void. McConnell should have reliable DFS value on Thursday.
Malcolm Brogdon, Edmond Sumner Questionable For Wednesday
Indiana Pacers guards Malcolm Brogdon (hamstring) and Edmond Sumner (knee) are listed as questionable for Wednesday's game against the Sacramento Kings. Brogdon has missed the last two games, so it wouldn't be shocking to see him miss another contest. Sumner suffered an injury on Sunday and it bothered him during Monday's game as well. T.J. McConnell and Aaron Holiday could be asked to step up on Wednesday. McConnell would be an interesting DFS option without Brogdon or Sumner on the court.
Indiana Pacers point guard Edmond Sumner played a team-high 37 minutes in Sunday's 131-112 victory over Orlando and came through with 21 points on 7-for-13 shooting from the field and with a 7-for-8 effort at the foul line. He was also one of the team's best rebounders with seven boards, adding two assists and one steal. That's now back-to-back 20-point games for Sumner, who made his 17th start of the campaign on Sunday. Indiana's stars have mostly overshadowed him but the last two performances have been very good from the Xavier product. Tuesday's matchup with a defensively-challenged Portland team offs Sumner a good opportunity to take his scoring streak to three games.
