Gordon Hayward Announces Retirement

Forward Gordon Hayward announced his retirement on Thursday. The 2010 No. 9 overall pick began his career with the Utah Jazz, where he was an All-Star in 2017. He signed with Boston in the offseason leading up to the 2017-18 campaign. However, Hayward injured his leg just five minutes into his tenure with the Celtics and wasn't the same since. The 34-year-old will finish his career by averaging 15.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 37.0% three-point shooting in 835 regular season appearances with the Jazz, Celtics, Hornets, and Thunder.

Gordon Hayward Has "Fans" In Denver's Front Office

Oklahoma City Thunder forward Gordon Hayward will be moving on this offseason following a disappointing stint with the team, and the Denver Nuggets might be a possible landing spot for him. Nuggets insider Harrison Wind has noted that he knows there are people within the club who are "fans" of Hayward. The 34-year-old was limited to 5.3 points in 17.2 minutes with the Thunder but started the season reasonably well in Charlotte. He could still do a job in a suitable situation. However, Hayward's play has steadily declined in recent years, and it looks like his days of being a reliable fantasy option are over.

Gordon Hayward Disappointed With Stint In Oklahoma City

Oklahoma City Thunder guard/forward Gordon Hayward has expressed displeasure with his role on the team. "Disappointing with how it all kind of worked out. Certainly frustrating," Hayward said. "I feel as a player, I have a lot to offer. Just wasn't really given much of an opportunity to do that. I thought I would be given that opportunity." After the Thunder traded for Hayward in February, the former All-Star averaged just 17.2 minutes per game with the team and saw even less action in the playoffs, logging 47 minutes across seven appearances. Hayward will enter unrestricted free agency this offseason after completing a four-year, $120 million deal.

Gordon Hayward Available For Thunder Debut

Oklahoma City Thunder forward Gordon Hayward (calf) says he's ready to play in Thursday's game versus the Los Angeles Clippers. A strained left calf has kept Hayward off the floor since late December, but he will be available to make his Thunder debut on Thursday. Likely facing a minutes restriction and bench role in his first game back, the 33-year-old former All-Star is not a recommended DFS play against a Clippers team that ranks seventh in the NBA in opponent field-goal percentage (46.6%).

Gordon Hayward Won't Play Until After All-Star Break

According to OKC head coach Mark Daigneault, forward Gordon Hayward (calf) won't debut for the Thunder until after the All-Star break. Fortunately, it appears the veteran is nearing a return to the court after missing well over a month while still with the Charlotte Hornets. But at least there is light at the end of the tunnel for fantasy managers, even though it could take Hayward some time to get acclimated to things with his new team. The 2010 No. 9 overall pick has been a top producer throughout his career, averaging 15.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.6 assists. He's battled injuries over the years, diminishing his fantasy stock. But Hayward could carve out a routine role in the lineup and make a difference for fantasy managers, even if he's nowhere close to the player he once was.

Gordon Hayward On The Move To Oklahoma City

Charlotte Hornets forward Gordon Hayward (calf) has been traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. The veteran forward joins a Thunder team stacked with young talent and will attempt to be a veteran presence to help them through the end of the season and the playoffs. In return, the Hornets received Tre Mann, Davis Bertans, Vasilije Micic, and draft compensation. Hayward still hasn't played a game since Dec. 26 due to a calf strain, but he seemed to be trending in the right direction after head coach Steve Clifford said his return was on the horizon. His return will now come with a new team, and it doesn't seem likely that he'll receive a heavy workload like he did in Charlotte.

Gordon Hayward Questionable Wednesday

Charlotte Hornets small forward Gordon Hayward (calf) has been listed as questionable for Wednesday's clash versus Toronto. Hornets head coach Steve Clifford mentioned at the start of the week that Hayward is close to returning to the lineup, and it looks like the former All-Star might indeed make his first appearance since Dec. 26. However, with him having been out for so long, it's unlikely Hayward will play his regular minutes. He's had 14.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 4.6 assists across 31.9 minutes this season.

Gordon Hayward "Close" To A Return

Charlotte Hornets forward Gordon Hayward (calf) has been sidelined since December 26 and the team never gave an update on him after saying he would be re-evaluated near the end of January. Head coach Steve Clifford said Hayward is "pretty close to being able to come back," but didn't offer any firm timetable. His injury has been listed as a calf strain this whole time, but there hasn't been any official word from the team on the severity or the treatment plan. For now, fantasy managers will have to check back for any updates on Hayward throughout the week. There have been a few reports saying the Hornets are also exploring trade options with Hayward, so that will be another avenue to watch. In the meantime, Brandon Miller will continue seeing big minutes with the starting five.

Gordon Hayward Remains Out With Calf Strain

Charlotte Hornets forward Gordon Hayward (calf) won't be available for Monday's meeting with the Los Angeles Lakers. Charlotte hasn't re-evaluated Hayward's strained left calf since mid-January, last reporting that he would miss another week on Jan. 17. While the 33-year-old former All-Star has an opportunity to return in Wednesday's game versus the Toronto Raptors, it appears unlikely he'll suit up for that one. Hayward could be on the trade block leading into Thursday's deadline. Brandon Miller, the NBA's Rookie of the Month for January, has gotten his chance to shine on the injury-plagued Hornets. Averaging 22.7 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.1 treys on 40.3% shooting from long range, and 0.9 steals through his past 10 outings, Miller has bloomed into a must-start across all fantasy formats after putting up a career-high 35 points in Sunday's loss to the Indiana Pacers.

Gordon Hayward Still Out With Calf Strain

Charlotte Hornets forward Gordon Hayward (calf) remains out for Friday's contest against the Oklahoma City Thunder. A strained left calf has kept Hayward off the court since late December, and while his next chance to suit up will come on Sunday versus the visiting Indiana Pacers, he remains without a timetable for a return and should be considered out indefinitely until further notice. 2023 No. 2 overall pick Brandon Miller is helping fill Hayward's void by playing top-75 fantasy ball in nine-category leagues over his last eight games, averaging 20.5 points on 48.8% shooting from the field, 4.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 2.6 threes since Jan. 19. Though Friday's tilt against the Thunder carries significant blowout risk, Miller should be rostered and started in most season-long leagues while Hayward remains on the shelf.
