Markus Howard Sustains Knee Sprain, Out At Least Six Weeks
Denver Nuggets point guard Markus Howard (knee) has been diagnosed with a sprained left knee, an ailment that will keep him out for at least the next six weeks before the team's training staff further evaluates him. Howard, once a prolific scorer at Marquette during his college days, has been utilized sparingly off the bench by Denver once the past two years; this season, he has shot just 35.5 percent overall while averaging 4.3 points per game. The Nuggets' backcourt has been down Jamal Murray (knee) all season, but Monte Morris has emerged as a sound season-long asset, while Bones Hyland and Facundo Campazzo have shown flashes of being DFS upside plays on given occasions.
Denver Nuggets guard Markus Howard re-signed with the team on Sunday. It will be a two-way contract, so fantasy managers outside of dynasty formats likely won't have much interest in him. The 22-year-old finished last season by averaging just 2.8 points throughout 37 games, although he did score 20 points across 34 minutes during his lone start of the year. There may be a time during the 2021-22 campaign where his name pops up as a streaming option in season-long leagues or as a value alternative in DFS contests. However, Howard doesn't do enough to matter from a fantasy perspective in nearly every format imaginable to have a consistent role in any lineup.
