New Orleans Pelicans center Willy Hernangomez will get the starting nod for Wednesday's game against the Portland Trail Blazers. The big man will get the start with Jonas Valanciunas (calf) on the sideline. Also, Larry Nance Jr. (ankle) is out, so Hernangomez and Jaxson Hayes should get plenty of minutes on Wednesday. Between the two, Hernangomez is the better streaming choice and is worth looking at for Wednesday's slate with the Pelicans shorthanded.
Willy Hernangomez Registers An Impressive Double-Double
New Orleans Pelicans center Willy Hernangomez remained on the bench despite Jonas Valanciunas' (quadriceps) absence on Sunday against the Kings, but he ended up having a very strong outing off the pine, collecting 22 points and 16 rebounds in 28 minutes. He also bagged four assists and blocked one shot while shooting 7-for-16 from the field and 8-for-8 at the line. The Spaniard has always been a good per-minute player and proved it again here. He could get another opportunity to shine Tuesday against Atlanta if Valanciunas remains out.
New Orleans Pelicans center Willy Hernangomez was named the EuroBasket MVP in the wake of Spain defeating France for the gold medal Sunday. Hernangomez finished with 14 points and eight rebounds in the final contest, averaging 17.2 PPG throughout the tournament. The 28-year-old has traditionally been utilized as a reserve big man throughout his NBA career, although he set a career high with 9.1 PPG last season for New Orleans. With Jonas Valanciunas and Jaxson Hayes still in the mix for the Pelicans, Hernangomez faces a muddled path to fantasy-relevant playing time in 2022-23, even with his international trophy in tow.
Center Willy Hernangomez agreed to a three-year deal to remain with the Pelicans. The 2015 second-round draft pick has played in New York and Charlotte throughout his career before ending up in New Orleans. The 27-year-old wasn't a consistent fantasy option last season, but throughout his 12 games in the starting lineup, he averaged a double-double by way of 11.5 points and 10.8 rebounds. While Hernangomez remains behind Jonas Valanciunas and Jaxson Hayes on the depth chart, his ceiling will get much higher if he lands a consistent role at some point during the year.
Willy Hernangomez Bags Another Double-Double In Season Finale
New Orleans Pelicans center Willy Hernangomez rolled to a 19-point, 13-rebound double-double in the team's final game of the season on Sunday. He also had two blocks and one steal in a home loss to the Lakers. Hernangomez shot 8-for-11 from the field and 3-for-5 at the foul line. The Spanish center became a fantasy factor late in the season when Steven Adams (toe) went down and the team waved the white flag in the playoff race. It's the same old story with him, as Hernangomez always puts up good numbers when he gets meaningful playing time, but the consistent minutes sadly aren't there for him. He averaged 11.5 points and 10.8 rebounds per game in 12 outings as a starter this season.
Willy Hernangomez Posts Double-Double In Loss To Mavericks
New Orleans Pelicans center Willy Hernangomez posted his second double-double of the month in Wednesday's loss to the Dallas Mavericks. Hernangomez scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the game. He shot 3-for-5 from the field and 6-for-8 from the free throw strike. He also added three assists and a steal. The Pelicans were without many of their primary players including Lonzo Ball (thumb), Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram and Steven Adams, so Hernangomez took advantage of the extra opportunities. Next up for Hernangomez and the Pelicans is a matchup against the Golden State Warriors on Friday.
Willy Hernangomez Has Double-Double Performance As Starter
New Orleans Pelicans center Willy Hernangomez collected a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double in Monday's 109-87 win over the Clippers, shooting 5-for-7 from the field and logging 31 minutes as a starter. Steven Adams (toe) sat this one out. Hernangomez produced three steals and one block on the defensive end. He seems to always put up nice numbers when he gets enough minutes, but that mostly isn't the case. The Pelicans play the Nuggets next, which would be a great matchup for Hernangomez with Denver allowing opposing centers to shoot 56 percent against them, but Adams' injury doesn't sound very serious, and he could easily return on Wednesday.
Charlotte Hornets center Willy Hernangomez connected on four of eight from the floor and an amazing 14 of 15 at the line to score 22 points in the blowout loss to the Warriors. Hernangomez added five rebounds with nothing else in 23 minutes of action. Hernangomez got some extra run with Cody Zeller shelved in this one, and he may have won some leagues with his 93.3 percent shooting at the line with 15 attempts on the night. If Zeller continues to miss some time, Hernangomez is worth a look as a plug-in player here and there.
Charlotte Hornets center Willy Hernangomez had a stellar contest against the Sacramento Kings on Thursday. Hernangomez scored 11 points going four for nine from the field and also hit both of his free-throws. In addition to his scoring output Hernangomez also had 16 boards with a block and a steal. Hornets normal starting center Cody Zeller has been out since January second but that hasn't correlated in much of an uptick in production for Hernangomez. Since Zeller's injury Hernangomez has averaged just 8.6 points and 7.9 rebounds which is slightly higher than his season averages of 7.7 points and 5.6 boards. For fantasy players don't look at Thursday's performance and expect that to continue because you may be disappointed.
Charlotte Hornets center Willy Hernangomez compiled 10 points and eight rebounds in just 14 minutes of action during Mondays win over the Orlando Magic. With Cody Zeller suffering a fractured hand earlier in the contest, Hernangomez could be looking at additional playing time moving forward -- enough that could warrant a speculative add in fantasy. The center spot could be crowded alongside Frank Kaminsky and Bismack Biyombo, so keep an eye on head coach James Borregos rotations beginning Wednesday versus Dallas, but Hernangomez is a promising piece, averaging 7.0 points and 4.9 rebounds per contest in just 13 minutes per night.
