Yuta Watanabe News
Toronto Raptors forward Yuta Watanabe produced the best game of his career on Sunday, going for 26 points and 13 rebounds in a blowout loss to Cleveland. He bagged an assist with one steal and one block as well, shooting 11-for-20 from the field and 2-for-3 from deep. Watanabe was part of the starting unit and logged a team-high 37 minutes. The Raptors roster is looking completely different to the one we're used to seeing, with half of their eight-man rotation made up of players on hardship contracts. It's an awful situation for the team, but it's given players like Watanabe a platform to perform.
Toronto Raptors center Precious Achiuwa (shoulder) and shooting guard/power forward Yuta Watanabe (calf) have been cleared to play in Wednesday's game against Memphis. Achiuwa could see a slight minutes bump due to the absence of Khem Birch (knee), although the 22-year-old's role has remained steady across his first 15 games. Watanabe will be making his season debut when he checks into the game for Toronto, so he's unlikely to make much of a fantasy impact out of the gate. The 27-year-old appeared in 50 games with the Raptors last season, but he averaged just 14.4 minutes on a nightly basis bench, primarily filling in as a lightly utilized bench piece.
Toronto Raptors small/power forwards OG Anunoby (calf) and Yuta Watanabe (ankle) have been deemed unavailable to play in Sunday's contest versus the Timberwolves, continuing their respective absences. Despite the fact that Anunoby is getting closer to a return, he will miss his 10th straight game Sunday, paving the way for Norman Powell to remain among the starting five and continue seeing a significant role in the offense. Watanabe's absence from the second unit allows DeAndre' Bembry to continue seeing a handful of additional minutes and looks, giving him DFS punt play potential. The next chance that Anunoby and Watanabe have to suit up comes Tuesday against Milwaukee.
Toronto Raptors small/power forward Yuta Watanabe (ankle) has been deemed doubtful to take the floor for Sunday's contest against the Timberwolves due to a sprained left ankle. Watanabe has been unable to play since sustaining the injury in practice, which has opened the door for DeAndre' Bembry to see a handful of additional minutes off the bench. While none of the Raptors' second unit wings are worth season-long deliberation at this stage, Watanabe has shown scoring upside when given enough minutes and has provided valuable frontcourt depth. His likely next best chance to suit up comes Tuesday versus Milwaukee.
