The Las Vegas Raiders are signing former Cincinnati Bengals offensive lineman Alex Cappa to an undisclosed deal on Wednesday, a source tells NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The Raiders were quick to pounce on Cappa to give them extra offensive-line depth, as Cappa was just released by the Bengals on Monday of this week. According to Pro Football Talk, Cappa's agents announced that he signed a two-year deal worth $11 million with Vegas. The 30-year-old veteran was been a starter at right guard for the last six seasons -- three with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and three with the Bengals. New Raiders general manager John Spytek was with the Bucs when Cappa was a member of the team. There's a pretty good chance that Cappa will start at right guard for the Raiders in 2025 in his first year with the organization.
The Cincinnati Bengals announced on Monday that they released offensive guard Alex Cappa. While Cappa has been solid for the Bengals, starting all 50 games at right guard that he appeared in since joining the team in 2022, the team simply has too many other free agents they are trying to retain this offseason. In addition to trying to spend big money to keep star receivers Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, Cincinnati has prioritized keeping offensive linemen B.J. Hill, Trent Brown and Mike Hilton. The 30-year-old was a third-round selection by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2018 NFL draft out of Humboldt State and spent the first four years of his career with the Bucs before joining the Bengals in 2022. With seven years of NFL experience while playing at a high level, Cappa should generate plenty of interest on the open market.
Jonah Williams, Alex Cappa Ruled Out Against Chiefs
Cincinnati Bengals left tackle Jonah Williams (knee) and right guard Alex Cappa (ankle) have officially been ruled out for the AFC Championship game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. Williams and Cappa were also out in the Divisional Round win over the Buffalo Bills, and even though Cincy's offensive line played great in that game without them, it's notable against the Chiefs this weekend. Jackson Carman will start again on quarterback Joe Burrow's blind side at left tackle, while Max Scharping should man right guard for the second straight game. Williams dislocated his kneecap in the wild-card win over the Baltimore Ravens, while Cappa injured his ankle in the Week 18 regular season finale and has yet to play since.
Jonah Williams, Alex Cappa Ruled Out Against Bills
Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor has ruled out left tackle Jonah Williams (knee) and offensive guard Alex Cappa (ankle) for the Divisional Round game against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. Williams dislocated his kneecap in the wild-card win over the Baltimore Ravens, but there's a chance he could return next weekend if the Bengals advance to the AFC Championship for the second straight year. Cappa injured his ankle in Week 18 and missed wild-card weekend. He, too, could return to the Bengals if they advance to the next round. With both Williams and Cappa sidelined, Cincy's offensive line will be vulnerable to a strong Bills defensive front, which could spell trouble for quarterback Joe Burrow and the offense.
Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said that offensive lineman Alex Cappa (ankle) will not play in the wild-card playoff game against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday night. Taylor wouldn't say if Cappa will be able to play if the Bengals advance to the Divisional Round. The 27-year-old guard was injured in the Week 18 regular season finale against the Ravens and needed a cart to take him back to the locker room. There's a good chance his season may be over, which would be a notable blow to Cincy's offensive line as they look to get back to the Super Bowl. With Cappa out this weekend, Max Scharping will look to step up in a starting role against a strong Ravens pass rush.
