Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Antoine Wesley (groin, hip) was placed on injured reserve before the season began. The 24-year-old has been activated from the IR list, opening the 21-day window for him to start practicing. The Cardinals desperately need offensive weapons, particularly at the wide receiver position. With DeAndre Hopkins set to miss two more games, there is an opening after Marquise Brown and Zach Ertz for the No. 3 option. Rondale Moore returned to action this week but did not make much of an impact with three catches for 11 yards. Wesley outperformed Moore last season and could do so again when he's back. That said, he is not someone to add or stash until we know more about his health.
Arizona Cardinals exclusive-rights free-agent wide receiver Antoine Wesley signed his one-year tender offer on Thursday and will return to the team in 2022. Wesley will play for $825,000 this season. The 24-year-old had 19 receptions on 32 targets for 208 yards and three touchdowns in 15 games (four starts) in his first NFL season after going undrafted out of Texas Tech. Christian Kirk signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars in free agency, and veteran A.J. Green remains a free agent, so Wesley could be relied on more as receiver depth in Arizona in 2022. Wesley is unlikely to be fantasy relevant on draft day in most leagues, but he could become an interesting waiver-wire pickup if injuries strike Hopkins or Moore.
Cardinals Tender One-Year Contract To Antoine Wesley
The Arizona Cardinals are bringing back wide receiver Antoine Wesley on a one-year contract. The 24-year-old out of Texas Tech made his NFL debut with the team last year. He played in a total of 15 games and caught 19 of his 32 targets for 208 yards and three scores. He's a bit buried on the depth chart in Arizona. DeAndre Hopkins is the team's No. 1 receiver and he's got A.J. Green and Rondale Moore behind him. Luckily for Wesley, Christian Kirk is heading into free agency and Andy Isabella looks like he could be traded, but that still doesn't leave many available targets for Wesley.
With Arizona Cardinals wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins (knee) done for the rest of the regular season, Antoine Wesley, who filled in for Hopkins when he missed three games due to a hamstring injury, is the likely replacement to close out the season. Wesley and quarterback Kyler Murray both played for head coach Kliff Kingsbury at Texas Tech. Wesley has eight catches for 113 yards in 2021, but the Cardinals still have Christian Kirk, A.J. Green, rookie Rondale Moore and Andy Isabella on the roster. Green has been a No. 1 receiver in his career with Cincinnati, but Arizona won't rely on any one receiver to pick up Hopkins' slack. While the 24-year-old Wesley is an intriguing deep league or dynasty stash, he should be considered a deep sleeper in starting lineups the rest of the week.
