Veteran linebacker B.J. Goodson is signing a one-year deal worth up to $2.1 million on Tuesday with the New York Jets, according to a source. Goodson has 43 career starts (66 games played) and was a key leader for the Cleveland Browns in 2020. The 28-year-old has 251 tackles (168 solo), four interceptions, 12 passes defensed, two fumble recoveries and a sack in five seasons for the New York Giants, Green Bay Packers and Browns. Goodson's best season came last year when he had 91 tackles (59 solo), two interceptions, a fumble recovery and half a sack in 14 starts. He won't suddenly become fantasy relevant in IDP leagues, but he'll help provide experience and depth for the Jets interior defense.
The Cleveland Browns placed linebacker B.J. Goodson on the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Saturday, according to a source. Rookie left tackle Jedrick Wills was activated from the COVID-19 list. The Browns have delayed their flight ahead of Week 16 against the Jets and contact tracing is ongoing, so continue to check back to see if any more Browns defenders are ruled out for Sunday as high-risk close contacts of Goodson. The 27-year-old was a fourth-round pick of the Giants back in 2016. He has been a top-30 defensive back in IDP leagues with a career-high 91 combined tackles, three QB hits, two interceptions, six passes defensed, one fumble recovery and half a sack in 14 games started this year. Even with Goodson out this weekend, Cleveland's defense is a must-start in Week 16 against the one-win Jets.
New York Giants linebacker B.J. Goodson has been Sidelined for the foreseeable future with a hamstring strain. Goodson is currently in a tight battle for the starting position with linebackers Tae Davis and Ryan Connelly. This could prove to be a big development for a defense that ranked 24th in the NFL last year in overall defensive production, allowing 1898 rushing yards in 2018. With six rookies competing for playing time on the field in the secondary, depth is something that the Giants certainly are lacking on the defensive side of the ball.
