Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Bisi Johnson (knee) tore his ACL during Saturday's preseason contest against the Denver Broncos. After missing all of last season with the same injury, Johnson will be sidelined for another. The 25-year-old had a decent rookie campaign in 2019, finishing with 31 catches for 294 yards and three touchdowns. However, his production dwindled in 2020. With knee ailments keeping Johnson off the field, it wouldn't be surprising if he has already played his final game with the Vikings, although his absence won't impact fantasy managers much.
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Bisi Johnson caught three passes for 29 yards in Saturday's 17-7 preseason loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Johnson was able to command the most targets in this one with six while finishing tied with Nick Muse for the team lead in receiving yards. The 25-year-old has an uphill climb to significant playing time in the Minnesota offense, as Justin Jefferson, Adam Thielen, and K.J. Osborn headline the wide receiver group. The Vikings figure to run a lot of three-WR sets, so Johnson's best-case scenario for fantasy relevance would be locking up the No. 4 wide receiver role and having someone ahead of him miss time. Still, he would need to beat out Ihmir Smith-Marsette for the WR4 spot on the depth chart. As of now, he is not on the fantasy radar.
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Bisi Johnson was placed on injured reserve and is out for the 2021 season. Johnson tore his ACL during practice last week and surgery certainly is in the near future. The Vikings recently added to their receivers group by signing former Jaguars wideout Dede Westbrook but losing Johnson will affect their depth. The 24-year-old really shined during training camp last season but caught only 14 passes for 189 yards last season in a limited role.
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Bisi Johnson will head into his third pro season hoping to lock down the third receiver role in the offense. Johnson was the 'star' of last year's training camp, earning rave reviews with highlight-reel catches during practices. Unfortunately, those performances did not translate over to the regular season games and rookie teammate Justin Jefferson soared past him on the depth chart. Johnson finished the season with only 14 receptions for 189 yards and zero touchdowns and will need a strong preseason to carve out a role in the offense in 2021.
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Bisi Johnson has "a huge advantage and head start" for the No. 3 receiver job behind Adam Thielen and Justin Jefferson because of his highly touted route-running skills, in the opinion of Vikings analyst Ben Leber. Johnson will be competing with fifth-round rookie Ihmir Smith-Marsette and Chad Beebe. Smith-Marsette is more of a deep threat because of his speed, but he could challenge Johnson is he is a quick learner and becomes more versatile. In his two seasons with the Vikes, Johnson has 45 catches for 483 yards and three touchdowns in 32 games (nine starts). Because the 24-year-old isn't a lock for a starting job yet and because of the fact that the No. 3 receiver in Minnesota's run-first offense won't see a consistent target share, Johnson probably isn't worth a roster spot in standard-sized fantasy leagues.
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Bisi Johnson did enough to secure his role in Week 1 as the No. 2 receiver heading into the team's matchup against the Colts. Johnson caught three passes for 56 yards to open the season and now will face a Colts Defense that allowed touchdowns to secondary receivers on the Jaguars in Week 1. Despite the starting role, it is hard to trust Johnson from a fantasy perspective with teammate Adam Thielen soaking up all the targets on the other side of the field. Johnson could be worth a spot on fantasy rosters in deeper leagues, but is hard to trust in starting lineups for Week 2.
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Bisi Johnson caught three passes for 56 yards in the team's 43-34 loss to the Packers in Week 1. Johnson beat out rookie Justin Jefferson as the starter heading into the season and Johnson came down with a nice 29-yard reception. He was only targeted four times in the game but proved that he could be a roadblock for Jefferson's fantasy value in the coming games. Johnson will be no more than a WR6 flier heading into Week 2.
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Bisi Johnson is listed as the No. 2 receiver on the Vikings depth chart heading into Week 1. Johnson has won the job over first-round pick Justin Jefferson after consistently making splash plays during training camp. It appears the Vikings coaching staff wants to reward that hard work, but Johnson will have a tough test in Week 1. Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins has really struggled against the Packers in the past, leaving Johnson with little fantasy appeal for Week 1 in season-long leagues.
Bisi Johnson Carving Out A Role In Vikings Offense
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Bisi Johnson continues to carve out a role for himself heading into the 2020 season. The Vikings drafted Justin Jefferson and signed Tajai Sharpe in the offseason but it has been Johnson that has impressed in camp. The former 7th round pick may not be able to replace the breakaway speed of traded teammate Stefon Diggs, but Johnson has sure hands and can be effective running intermediate routes from the slot. Johnson may not be drafted in most fantasy leagues to begin the season but is a player worth keeping an eye on early in the season as a possible sleeper.
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Bisi Johnson has been so consistent and productive during camp that he currently has the inside track at starting the season as the team's No. 2 receiver. The Vikings drafted Justin Jefferson in the first round to step in and become a starter, and he has looked impressive at times. But it has been Johnson that continues to make greater strides, making highlight-reel grabs in practice on almost a daily basis. Quarterback Kirk Cousins has also expressed comfort and confidence in throwing to Johnson. As it stands right now, Johnson is trending towards winning the starting No. 2 receiver job, which could affect Jefferson's fantasy ceiling early in the season.
