The Baltimore Ravens have added running back Bobby Rainey on Tuesday. He will serve as the team's third-string running back if Terrance West misses time with his calf issue. He would have an uphill battle to carve out enough touches to be fantasy relevant. If West doesn't miss any games, then Rainey becomes even more of a risky add outside of fairly deep leagues.
Delivering as the lone returner, Bobby Rainey returned one kickoff and two punts in the preseason finale. Rainey also ran the ball seven times for thirty-eight yards. Leading the team in both yards and average, he delivered among a seeming three way battle with Orleans Darkwa and Andre Williams. The New York backfield has become filled with average runners with Rashad Jennings leading the way. Shane Vereen and Paul Perkins saw little action against the Patriots as they both appear to have strong holds on their roster spots. Battling for the fourth spot among running backs, Bobby Rainey maintains an advantage as a capable returner. With a poor offensive line, the Giants backfield remains a mystery, but Rashad Jenning appears to be the top option.
Bobby Rainey Serves as Premier Returner; Likely to Take RB Roster Spot
In an already cluttered New York backfield, Bobby Rainey is inserting himself as another running back that may find his way onto the 53-man roster. Lining up as the main return man for the Giants in their preseason opener, Rainey appears likely to remain on the roster after cuts. In addition to returning, Rainey was given the third most rushing attempts against the Dolphins. Rainey is entering his first season with the Giants after three relatively successful years in Tampa Bay. In his time with the Buccaneers he was given over two hundred attempts on the ground as he rushed for nearly one thousand yards. He is unlikely to command any real attention in leagues, but his presence on the roster may lead to a major decision between Paul Perkins and Andre Williams.
