Chargers Release Bryan Bulaga

The Los Angeles Chargers released offensive tackle Bryan Bulaga on Tuesday. The Chargers waived him with a failed-physical designation. The 32-year-old injured his back in the Week 1 season-opener, and he never returned in his second season in LA. If Bulaga proves he's back to full health, the 11-year veteran shouldn't have trouble latching on with another team on the open market. Cutting Bulaga will save the Chargers $10.75 million in salary cap space for the 2022 season. Bulaga was a first-round pick (23rd overall) of the Green Bay Packers in 2010, and he spent the first nine seasons of his career with the Packers before signing with the Chargers in 2020.

Bryan Bulaga Has Core Muscle Surgery

Los Angeles Chargers right tackle Bryan Bulaga underwent core muscle surgery on Tuesday. He will remain on Injured Reserve, and his return to play this year remains undetermined. Bulaga hurt himself in the season-opening win over the Washington Football Team and hasn't played since. The Chargers remains hopeful that the 32-year-old right tackle will be able to return at some point this season. Until that happens, Storm Norton will continue filling in on the right side of the Bolts offensive line in a Week 6 showdown with the Baltimore Ravens on the road.

Chargers Place Bryan Bulaga On Injured Reserve

The Los Angeles Chargers placed offensive tackle Bryan Bulaga (back) on Injured Reserve on Friday and signed offensive lineman Michael Schofield in a corresponding move. Bulaga injured his back in the Week 1 win over the Washington Football Team and will miss at least the next three weeks. With Bulaga out, expect Storm Norton to start at right tackle for the Chargers offensive line for the foreseeable future. It's a downgrade for the Bolts O-line, but it may not matter much in Week 2 with the Dallas Cowboys without their best pass-rusher in DeMarcus Lawrence. Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert and running back Austin Ekeler are must-starts this Sunday.

Chargers Add Bryan Bulaga

The Los Angeles Chargers agreed on a three-year, $30 million deal with former Green Bay Packers right tackle Bryan Bulaga on Tuesday, according to a source. The Chargers need all the offensive line help they can get, so this is a nice move for them in free agency. The soon-to-be 31-year-old offensive lineman spent nine seasons with the Packers before this move. He should definitely help to lock down the right side of the Bolts offensive line in 2020 and beyond, although it's still uncertain who will be the team's starting quarterback. As of now, Tyrod Taylor is at the top of the depth chart.

Bryan Bulaga Should Be Fine

Green Bay Packers right tackle Bryan Bulaga (knee), who left the Monday night game early against the Patriots, is going to be fine, according to a source. Bulaga doesn't have structural damage in his knee and could even play in Week 10 against the Dolphins. That's good news for quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the team's ground game as they look to snap a two-game skid.
