Outside linebacker Carl Nassib, the first openly gay active player in NFL history, is retiring from the NFL at the age of 30. Nassib played in 99 regular season games for the Buccaneers, Browns, and Raiders. In 2023, he recorded 23 tackles and 3.5 sacks in Tampa Bay. In a post on social media, Nassib called his retirement a "bittersweet moment" but added that he feels "like the luckiest guy on the planet."
Free-agent defensive end Carl Nassib has decided to return to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The former third round pick has signed a one-year deal with the organization. The 29-year-old has spent each of the last two seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders. Although, his best seasons of his career were the two years he was in Tampa Bay. He recorded 63 tackles and 12.5 sacks through 29 games in two seasons with the Bucs. It's uncertain if Nassib can offer that same type of play, but it's worth the risk on a short term deal. This is a nice addition to the Bucs pass rushing group.
The Las Vegas Raiders will designate defensive end Carl Nassib as a post-June 1 release, which will save the team $8 million against the 2022 salary cap, according to a source. Nassib is now free to sign with another team. The 28-year-old former third-round pick in 2016 of the Cleveland Browns was with the Raiders the last two seasons. He had a combined 33 solo tackles, eight tackles for loss, 13 QB hits, four sacks, one interception, five passes defensed and a forced fumble in 27 games (five starts) in 2020 and 2021 for the Raiders. In his six NFL seasons, Nassib has 164 total tackles (113 solo) and 22 sacks in 86 games (37 starts) with the Browns, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Raiders.
Carl Nassib Questionable To Return With Knee Injury
Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Carl Nassib (knee) is questionable to return to Thursday's game against the Cowboys. The 28-year-old has totaled 18 tackles and 1.5 sacks through 10-plus games in 2021.
Former Cleveland Brown Carl Nassib has just been claimed off of waivers by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Nassib has made himself quite notable during this season of Hard Knocks and will now be taking his savvy to Florida. The 2016 third round pick was recently let go by Cleveland during their cut down to the 53-man roster but was coveted by several teams on his way out. While not the most talented edge rusher in the league, Nassib could still provide good value to a Tampa Bay roster that was desperate for defensive line talent in the offseason.
