Chris Evans Downgraded Thursday

Cincinnati Bengals running back Chris Evans (hamstring) sat out of practice on Thursday after he was listed as a limited participant on Wednesday. The Athletic's Paul Dehner Jr. writes that it's not a great sign for Evans' chances of playing in Week 2 versus the division-rival Baltimore Ravens. The third-year running back has opened the 2023 season as Joe Mixon's primary backup, but he had only two carries for 12 yards and caught one pass for a loss of one yard in the Week 1 loss to the Cleveland Browns. If Evans is forced to sit out the Week 2 contest, Trayveon Williams will take on a bigger role as the backup, with rookie Chase Brown likely making his NFL debut after he was a healthy scratch in the season opener.

Chris Evans Limited In Wednesday’s Practice

Cincinnati Bengals running back Chris Evans (hamstring) was limited in the team's practice on Wednesday. Evans' hamstring appeared to be fine in the Bengals' loss on Sunday, as he tallied three touches for 11 yards on offense and returned two kicks for 45 yards on special teams. The running back dealt with an undisclosed injury this preseason, but there's no telling if that is related to this hamstring issue. It's only Wednesday, and a limited practice this early in the week is a great sign for his availability in Week 2. He only saw seven offensive snaps in Week 1, so he doesn't have much fantasy relevancy if he does suit up.

Chris Evans Takes Part In Practice

Cincinnati Bengals running back Chris Evans (undisclosed) was able to take part in practice on Monday ahead of this Sunday's Week 1 meeting with the Cleveland Browns. Evans didn't play in the team's preseason finale as a precaution, but he should be active this weekend to kick of the 2023 regular season. The 25-year-old former sixth-rounder in 2021 will serve in a complementary role behind starter Joe Mixon to kick off the year, but he'll be battling for touches with rookie Chase Brown and Trayveon Williams. Evans has a shot to be the team's primary third-down back, which makes him worth stashing in deep PPR formats. However, we wouldn't say he'll have standalone value in those formats in Week 1 against the Browns.

Chris Evans Not Playing In Preseason Finale

Cincinnati Bengals running back Chris Evans (undisclosed) did not practice last week and is not playing in Saturday's preseason finale, according to Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer. Evans had been in line to handle third-down duties but has seemingly suffered a setback. If neither he nor Trayveon Williams (ankle) can get healthy in time for Week 1, the Bengals will likely have to round out their backfield via free agency or the trade market.

Chris Evans Might Be Bengals' Third-Down Option

According to Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic, Cincinnati Bengals running back Chris Evans might become the team's third-down option. While Joe Mixon is still atop the depth chart, Evans has shown improvement since last season, especially as a blocker and receiver. The 25-year-old, drafted in the sixth round in 2021, has played well enough during the preseason to garner attention, especially with Trayveon Williams (ankle) on the shelf. However, Chase Brown might still have a role, meaning Evans is nothing more than a late, speculative roster add heading into the 2023-24 campaign.

Chris Evans To Be Primary Third-Down Back?

Cincinnati Bengals running back Chris Evans has just 95 touches for 266 yards in two seasons since being selected in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. However, it could be his time to contribute after the departure of Samaje Perine. Paul Dehner Jr. of the Athletic believes he will be the "starting passing-down back." Fellow running back Trayveon Williams (ankle) and rookie Chase Brown have been competing with Evans for the RB job behind Mixon, but it looks like Evans has the edge. If so, he will be one of the most valuable handcuff running backs in fantasy football as a part of a high-powered offense.

Chris Evans Struggles On The Ground Against Falcons

Cincinnati Bengals running back Chris Evans had seven carries for 15 yards during the preseason meeting with the Atlanta Falcons. He also caught both targets for 20 yards. The 25-year-old struggled on the ground in this one. In all fairness, Chase Brown didn't do much better, amassing 18 yards and a touchdown off nine touches. Nonetheless, Joe Mixon and Trayveon Williams are ahead on the depth chart. But Evans has a shot to earn the No. 3 spot. But he'll need to play better, or Chase Brown may move ahead of him heading into Week 1.

Chris Evans Making A Positive Impression

Cincinnati Bengals running back Chris Evans might be working his way up the depth chart. The 2021 sixth-round pick has impressed many during training camp, drawing attention for his improvements as a blocker. He also had seven carries for a team-high 49 rushing yards in Friday's preseason loss to the Packers. With Trayveon Williams (ankle) out, the No. 2 spot behind Joe Mixon is up for grabs. While Chase Brown is in the equation, it appears Evans may have the edge, at least at the moment. Nonetheless, the backfield situation in Cincinnati is worth monitoring, considering Mixon's issues with injuries throughout his career.

Chris Evans Looks Good In Preseason Opener

Cincinnati Bengals running back Chris Evans served as the team's starting RB in the preseason opener on Friday night against the Green Bay Packers with the team holding starting RB Joe Mixon out. Evans looked pretty good in the 36-19 loss, rushing seven times for 49 yards. Most of the 25-year-old's production came on a 33-yard run on the team's third drive of the night. He was unable to reel in his only target through the air. After Evans left, rookie Chase Brown saw a team-high eight carries but gained just 12 yards. Brown also had three receptions for 33 yards. If Evans continues to look good in the preseason, he should be able to easily lock down the backup job to Mixon in 2023 now that Samaje Perine is in Denver.

Trayveon Williams Active Over Chris Evans In Week 14

Cincinnati Bengals running back Chris Evans is a healthy scratch for Sunday's game against the Cleveland Browns. Trayveon Williams will be active in his place, operating as Cincinnati's No. 3 back behind Joe Mixon and Samaje Perine. Williams has impressed on special teams as of late, which likely explains why he is active over Evans. Despite rising up the depth chart, the 25-year-old belongs on waivers in most leagues.
