New Orleans Saints running back Daniel Lasco (back) suffered a bulging disc in the Week 10 game against the Bills that will keep him out for the rest of the year, according to sources. However, his injury isn't believed to be career-ending. It's a tough blow for Lasco, but he hadn't been a very big part of the offense, carrying the ball just 11 times for 32 yards on the season.
New Orleans Saints running back Daniel Lasco (spine) was taken to a local hospital and will not return in the team's matchup against the Bills. Lasco, who is in his second season and is mostly relegated to the special teams unit, suffered the injury while tackling wide receiver/kick returner Brandon Tate on Sunday. Though he has feeling in his extremities, he will continue to be evaluated.
New Orleans Saints running back Daniel Lasco was promoted from the practice squad onto the official roster on Tuesday. The Adrian Peterson trade cleared room for another RB to provide depth behind starter Mark Ingram and backup Alvin Kamara. Lasco was mainly a special teams player last season before being sidelined for several weeks with a hamstring injury. He carried 11 times for 32 yards as a rookie. Lasco doesn't need to be monitored unless one of the Saints' top runners goes down.
New Orleans Saints running back Daniel Lasco appeared to have a roster spot secured heading into Week 1, but that changed on Friday afternoon. Lasco was waived to clear room on the roster for offensive tackle Bryce Harris. Lasco, a seventh-round pick in 2016, had 11 carries for 32 yards last year. He was slated to be fourth on the depth chart and figured to be a special teams player only. He can be claimed by any team from this point forward and may wind up helping a club that lacks depth at the RB position.
Daniel Lasco Looking to Secure Spot on Special Teams
New Orleans Saints running back Daniel Lasco is working to earn his spot on the roster the same way he did last year - on special teams. Lasco was an important contributor the first five games of 2016, but then a pulled hamstring forced him to miss the last half of the season. "Being hurt is tough," he said. "Being on the sideline, especially in this league, they can go grab somebody else and put them in a spot (like) you were never there. It was tough." Lasco was a seventh-round pick out of Cal who is a physical specimen that needs to find his way into more playing time in a better situation. He registered a burst score in the 99th percentile and ran a 4.6 40-yard dash. It's unlikely he gets any carries in a crowded Saints backfield, but could be worth remembering in deep dynasty leagues. For now, he is simply a special teams maven.
Daniel Lasco Misses Practice Thursday, Questionable with Hamstring Injury
Daniel Lasco did not practice for the Saints on Thursday, throwing his availability into question for Week 9. He has been dealing with a hamstring issue for a couple of weeks, but this is the first time he appears on the injury report. Lasco could have been in line for increased touches with Mark Ingram's recent benching, but now he may not suit up at all. The rookie has carried the ball 11 times for 32 yards this season.
