Deandre Baker Works Out For Cards

Free-agent cornerback Deandre Baker worked out for the Cardinals on Wednesday. Baker was selected in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Giants and finished his rookie year with 61 total tackles (48 solo) and eight passes defensed. However, after he was charged with four counts of armed robbery in May 2020, New York opted to part ways with him. The charges were eventually dropped, and he went on to appear in 10 games for the Chiefs over the last two seasons before being released in August 2022. Nonetheless, Baker has proven he has more than enough to play at the professional level. Yet, even if he ends up signing with the Cardinals, he may not receive enough playing time to become a viable IDP fantasy option.

Chiefs Cut DeAndre Baker Sunday

The Kansas City Chiefs cut cornerback DeAndre Baker on Sunday, according to a league source. Baker, a former first-round pick of the New York Giants in 2019 out of the University of Georgia, has played in only 26 games in three NFL seasons due to injuries. He played in just eight games for the Chiefs last year, recording 16 tackles (13 solo) with one pass defensed. It didn't help the 24-year-old's cause for making the final roster this year after the Chiefs drafted three cornerbacks earlier this year. In his three years in the NFL, Baker has 82 tackles (65 solo), three tackles for loss, one sack and 10 passes defensed for the Giants and Chiefs.

Chiefs Defense Loses Deandre Baker For Playoffs

Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Deandre Baker (leg), who broke his femur in gruesome fashion in the Week 17 loss to the Chargers, had successful surgery on Monday, according to head coach Andy Reid. Baker played in just two games all season and got some run on Sunday in a meaningless game with the Chiefs having already locked up first-round bye and home-field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs. The former first-round pick of the Giants (30th overall) in 2019, Baker has 66 combined tackles, nine passes defensed and one sack in his first 18 games. Kansas City's secondary will be a little short-handed depth-wise as they enter the playoffs in defense of their Super Bowl title from a year ago.

Chiefs Defense Loses Deandre Baker Due To Apparent Knee Injury

Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Deandre Baker (knee) was carted off the field during Sunday's regular-season finale versus the Chargers with an apparent serious knee injury. Baker was appearing in just his second game of the year, although he did not figure to play a major role for the Chiefs Defense heading into the postseason. Having been a first-round pick of the Giants in 2019, Baker missed the vast majority of the year due to off-the-field legal issues. Early returns on his injury are not optimistic, but check back for updates as they become available.

Chiefs Defense Expected To Add DeAndre Baker

The Kansas City Chiefs are expected to sign former Giants cornerback DeAndre Baker to their practice squad in the coming days, according to a source. Baker, a first-round pick (30th overall) for New York in 2019, is headed to Kansas City for a visit, which is his only planned visit. The Giants released the 23-year-old in the offseason for his alleged involvement in an armed robbery in Florida. But on Monday, all charges were dropped against Baker when South Florida attorney William Dean was charged with extortion. Baker will have to be removed from the commissioner's exempt list in order to be eligible to play in games. The Georgia product had 61 combined tackles in 16 games in his rookie season and will give an already strong Chiefs Defense some nice depth in the secondary.

Charges Against DeAndre Baker Could Be Dropped

New York Giants cornerback DeAndre Baker's attorney, Patrick G. Patel, said he still expects charges against Baker to be dropped, possibly by the end of the week. The 22-year-old cornerback is out on bail after being arrested in connection with an armed robbery in early May. In the meantime, Baker continues to train on his own in Florida. He was told to stay away from virtual team meetings on May 17, and he's still not allowed to take part in any meetings. Patel previously said the case against his client was "complete garbage" and that Baker was a victim of a "shakedown." "I think we've got the case won, to be honest with you. I think it's only a matter of time," Patel said. Even if all charges are dropped, there's a chance Baker could still be suspended by the NFL for violating the league's personal-conduct policy.

Deandre Baker Pleads Not Guilty To All Charges

New York Giants cornerback Deandre Baker pleaded not guilty to all eight of the charges related to the armed robbery in South Florida last week. Baker and Seahawks corner Quinton Dunbar were allegedly involved in an altercation that ended up with Baker receiving four counts of armed robbery with a firearm and four counts of aggravated assault with a firearm. Baker is not allowed to attend the virtual meetings being held by the Giants for now, but it remains to be seen how this all turns out. Even if he does not face legal penalties, he may face punishment from the NFL. This won't be the last we hear of this story.

DeAndre Baker Won't Take Part In Virtual Program

New York Giants cornerback DeAndre Baker is not taking part in virtual offseason meetings so he can focus on his legal case. Baker and Seahawks cornerback Quinton Dunbar were arrested Saturday and charged with four counts of armed robbery stemming from an incident at a cookout the players were attending Wednesday. If Baker were to miss any time that would be another blow for a Giants secondary that allowed 30 touchdowns through the air last season, which was tied for fifth-worst in the NFL.

Deandre Baker, Quinton Dunbar Arrested For Armed Robbery

New York Giants cornerback Deandre Baker and Seattle Seahawks cornerback Quinton Dunbar were both issued arrest warrants on four counts of armed robbery with a firearm, according to the Miramar, Florida, police department. Baker was also charged with four counts of aggravated assault with a firearm for a May 13 incident. A recent article from The Seattle Times' Bob Condotta stated that Dunbar was set to start at right cornerback in 2020, but that is clearly in jeopardy now with both he and Baker facing lengthy suspensions from the NFL. Tre Flowers has been the starter on the right side the last two seasons in Seattle, so he would be the logical fill-in if/when Dunbar is suspended.

DeAndre Baker Getting First-Team Reps At Practice

New York Giants rookie cornerback DeAndre Baker (knee) is starting to get healthy. While we shouldnt read into practice repetitions too much, this is a nice step in his recovery from an early knee injury and good news for a Giants secondary that is closer to getting Sam Beal back as well. The Giants likely wont be a great fantasy defense this season, but getting talented young players on the field for the regular season can only help them inch closer to being a relevant option.
