New Orleans Saints cornerback Delvin Breaux was diagnosed with a fractured fibula after team doctors initially reported it was just a bone bruise. This means Breaux with undergo surgery and miss at least six weeks, ending his preseason work. Breaux was rumored to be on the trading block, as the team was frustrated with his lack of progress. He missed 10 games last year, his second in the league. In better news, first-round pick Marshon Lattimore will see his first preseason action this week after missing all of training camp to this point with a knee sprain. The Saints' secondary has never been a strong point and the mounting injuries to their key players points to another season of big gains by the opposition unless Lattimore can stay on the field and make an instant impact.
Delvin Breaux May Have Broken Fibula, Bad Defense May Get Worse
The Saints defense was as bad as advertised in week 1, allowing 35 points to the Raiders. That included 22 points in the fourth quarter alone and a last minute drive that cost them a home victory. Things may get even worse in New Orleans as top cornerback Delvin Breaux left the game and has been initially diagnosed as having a broken fibula. It is too early to know a timetable for his return, but he is expected to miss significant time. For fantasy purposes, you weren't considering New Orleans as your defense anyway, but starting borderline WR opponents may be a wise strategy. Victor Cruz and Sterling Shepard come to mind for next week in DFS formats.
