The Atlanta Falcons agreed to an undisclosed contract with linebacker Deone Bucannon on Thursday. The former first-round pick (27th overall) in 2014 by the Cardinals turned out to be a bust in the NFL to this point. The 27-year-old spent five seasons with the Cardinals before playing for the Giants and Buccaneers in 2019. In his six seasons, Bucannon has only seven sacks, two interceptions (one for a TD), 12 passes defensed, seven forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries. The versatile defender started out as a strong safety in Arizona before being converted to a linebacker and then back to a defensive back in his final season in the desert. He'll be depth for Atlanta's D in 2020.
Arizona Cardinals linebacker Deone Bucannon had an MRI after hyperextending his knee in practice this week. However, all of his ligaments are fine, meaning that he will not miss an extended period of time. This is a huge sigh of relief for the Cardinals, who are expecting Bucannon to be a key leader of the team's defense this year. With Bucannon back in the fray soon, expect the Cardinals to improve on their performance in 2017 and solidify themselves as a solid streaming D/ST in 2018.
After colliding with wide receiver Brice Butler in practice Thursday, Arizona Cardinals linebacker Deone Bucannon did not participate in the media portion of the team's practice Friday. If it is a serious injury, Bucannon may be forced to miss some time, creating a hole in the middle of the Cardinals defense. Although it doesn't look to be too serious, fantasy owners should still wait to see how long Bucannon will be out for before committing to a Cardinals defensive revival. Nevertheless, the Cardinals will be an interesting streaming option heading into the season under a defensive-minded head coach in Steve Wilks.
