D'Onta Foreman Figures To Have Short-Yardage Role

There's a lot of uncertainty surrounding the Cleveland Browns' backfield heading into this summer with running back Nick Chubb (knee) months away from having a timetable to return. Nyheim Hines (knee) is also recovering from a torn ACL as well. D'Onta Foreman figures to operate as the team's short-yardage back, while Jerome Ford could go anywhere from first in line to a specialized role while mostly helping in the passing game. Pierre Strong Jr. and John Kelly Jr. round out the RB room. The Browns have nice depth at the position, but the pecking order and specific roles are to be determined based on Chubb's availability and effectiveness. Foreman's fantasy value will hinge on Chubb as well, but in a best-case scenario if Chubb isn't ready for the start of the season, he'll be a touchdown-dependent RB3/flex.

D'Onta Foreman Signing With Browns

Free-agent running back D'Onta Foreman is signing an undisclosed deal with the Cleveland Browns on Wednesday, according to sources. Foreman has played for three different teams -- the Tennessee Titans, Carolina Panthers and Chicago Bears -- in each of the last three seasons. The 27-year-old former third-round pick of the Houston Texans in 2017 out of Texas filled a complementary role with the Bears in 2023 and had 109 carries for 425 yards (3.9 yards per attempt) and four touchdowns while adding 11 receptions for 77 yards and another score in nine games (eight starts). He could mix in more with Jerome Ford early in 2024 in Cleveland if Nick Chubb (knee) is eased in, but at best, Foreman will likely be an RB4/5 type in fantasy.

D'Onta Foreman Inactive For Week 17

Chicago Bears running back D'Onta Foreman (coach's decision) is a healthy scratch for Week 17 versus the Atlanta Falcons. The veteran missed last Sunday's game due to a personal matter but returned to practice in a full capacity this week. In the end, though, he'll remain sidelined with Khalil Herbert, Roschon Johnson, and Travis Homer active at the running back position. Look for Herbert, who had 121 scrimmage yards last Sunday, to operate as Chicago's lead back while ranking as a low-end fantasy RB2.

D'Onta Foreman Set To Return In Week 17

Chicago Bears running back D'Onta Foreman missed Week 16 due to personal reasons, but he logged a full practice on Wednesday and appears all set to return in Week 17. Khalil Herbert acted as the lead back in Week 16 and thrived, rushing for over 100 yards. Foreman has been the preferred back when the room is healthy, and he will likely slot back into the early-down rusher role in Week 17. While the veteran running back is unlikely to see a workload similar to other weeks this year where he saw at least 15 touches, he should see 10-12 opportunities, including some near the goal line. The Bears take on the Falcons in Week 17, who allow the second-fewest points per game to running backs this season. The Bears' backfield is likely better to avoid entirely due to their committee approach, especially ahead of a tough Week 17 matchup.

D'Onta Foreman Practicing In Full On Wednesday

Chicago Bears running back D'Onta Foreman (personal) missed the Week 16 game against the Arizona Cardinals due to personal reasons. He did not practice last Thursday and was a limited participant on Friday. Heading into Week 17, he's listed as a full participant in Wednesday's practice. It's unclear what exactly held him out last week, but he could return and complicate the Bears' backfield on Sunday. In his absence, Khalil Herbert rushed 20 times for 112 yards and a touchdown. Foreman, Herbert, and rookie Roschon Johnson have all had their moments this season, so it's tough to know what to expect if all three are healthy and active against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 17.

D'Onta Foreman Not Expected To Play In Week 16

Chicago Bears running back D'Onta Foreman (personal) has been listed as questionable and is not expected to play versus the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. There had been some optimism about the veteran's status after he practiced on Friday, but he ultimately won't suit up. Chicago will rely on Justin Fields, Khalil Herbert, Roschon Johnson, and Travis Homer (hamstring) to run the football. Of that group, Fields and Johnson have the most fantasy appeal, but even Johnson is nothing more than a low-end RB3/FLEX play.

D'Onta Foreman, Cole Kmet Questionable To Face Cardinals

Chicago Bears running back D'Onta Foreman (personal) and tight end Cole Kmet (quad) are officially questionable to play against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 16. Both players practiced in a limited capacity on Friday. Foreman has produced mixed results over the last two weeks, ultimately totaling just 44 yards on 17 carries during that span. Even if active this week, it would be tough to trust him in fantasy lineups. Kmet, on the other hand, is a fringe TE1 option in most leagues. He has double-digit fantasy points in three consecutive games and found the end zone last weekend.

D'Onta Foreman Takes Personal Day Thursday

Chicago Bears running back D'Onta Foreman did not practice with the team on Thursday due to a personal issue. The Bears have another day of practice on Friday before the final designations are listed for Week 16 on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals. As long as Foreman returns on Friday, he should be available to play this weekend. The 27-year-old returned from an injury in Week 14 and carried the ball 11 times for 50 yards, but he had just six carries for minus-six yards in last week's loss to the Cleveland Browns. Meanwhile, rookie Roschon Johnson was the most used and most effective back in Chicago's backfield. This has become a frustrating three-headed RB situation that also involves Khalil Herbert. Johnson probably has the most upside, but at best, Foreman and Johnson are low-upside, touchdown-dependent RB3/flex options in fantasy.

D'Onta Foreman Ends With Negative Yards In Week 15

Chicago Bears running back D'Onta Foreman appeared to reclaim the lead in the backfield upon his return in Week 14, but Week 15 proved to be a challenging matchup against the Browns. The veteran running back ran six times for negative six yards and did not register a catch in the 20-17 loss. Despite starting the game, Foreman was quickly replaced by teammates Roschon Johnson and Khalil Herbert due to his struggles. While the Bears seem inclined to feature Foreman, he needs to run more efficiently when the backfield is healthy to maintain a solid volume. The 27-year-old has limited involvement in the passing game, and the Bears' offense doesn't provide ample opportunities for him to score touchdowns. In Week 16, facing the Cardinals, who allow the second-most points per game to running backs this season, the Bears are likely to continue a committee approach. Foreman must find success in his touches to avoid being phased out as the season closes.

D'Onta Foreman Should Have Role In Week 15

Chicago Bears running back D'Onta Foreman reclaimed the lead role in Week 14 after returning from an ankle injury suffered in Week 11. This marked the fifth time this year the 27-year-old saw at least 10 rushing attempts, averaging at least four yards per carry in four of those five games. Foreman outpaced Khalil Herbert and Roschon Johnson in Week 14, leading them in snaps and having 10 more touches than both other backs, including all the receiving work. The Bears' rushing attack as a whole has been good this year, ranking in the top 10 in rush success rate. If the veteran back continues to lead this backfield, he holds value for fantasy managers. However, his performance may rely on touchdowns or receiving work to be above average. The Bears take on the Browns in Week 15, who allow the 19th-most points per game to running backs. With his exact role being unclear, Foreman is a risky play against a tough Browns' defense.
