Atlanta Falcons quarterback Garrett Grayson did not get much opportunity to impress in the final preseason game against the Miami Dolphins on Thursday. The young QB threw just six passes, completing only two of them. Grayson did not come into the game until the second half, once the Falcons had finished seeing what they had in Kurt Benkert. Grayson appears to be firmly planted at the bottom of the depth chart, and will likely be cut in the next couple of days. His best hope with the Falcons is that they carry three QBs on the roster and he gets a spot on the practice squad but that seems unlikely.
Garrett Grayson Looks Unlikely To Make Falcons Roster
Atlanta Falcons quarterback Garrett Grayson has very little chance of making the Falcons roster. Grayson has found himself firmly at the bottom of the depth chart, meaning he has seen very little action this preseason. Grayson has only featured in the first two preseason games, going 5-for-13 with 52 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions on 15 dropbacks. Right now Grayson is not even likely to find himself on the Falcons practice squad, with Kurt Benkert appearing to remain ahead of him in the Falcons eyes.
Atlanta Falcons quarterback Garrett Grayson did not see much time on the field in the preseason game Friday. Grayson threw three passes, with two completions for 14 yards. Grayson came into the game late in the fourth quarter, after Kurt Benkert had struggled. Prior to this game it appeared Grayson was a distant fourth on the quarterback depth chart. However, with the way Benkert struggled in this game, Grayson should now get the chance to compete with him for a likely practice squad spot in the final two preseason games. Grayson's only shot of fantasy value would be if injuries were to take down Matt Ryan and Matt Schaub and he was able to beat out Benkert.
The New Orleans Saints opted to keep two quarterbacks on the final roster for 2017, releasing QB Garrett Grayson. A third-round pick in 2015, Grayson didn't make enough of an impact in preseason action to earn a spot on the team. Grayson completed just four of 19 passes for 67 yards and no touchdowns in two exhibition games. He could end up on the practice squad, but his NFL future has definitely be cast in doubt. Career backup Chase Daniel will be the No. 2 QB behind Drew Brees for this season.
Garrett Grayson in the Mix for Third QB Spot in New Orleans
New Orleans quarterback Garrett Grayson has shown improvement in all phases since last season. Coach Sean Payton said as much on Friday. "I have seen a markable improvement in his ability to get in and out of the huddle up to the line, make decisions," Payton said. "I think he's someone who's a lot more comfortable with what we are doing and you start to see it a little bit from drill to drill." With former backup Luke McCown signing a deal with Dallas, Grayson will now have to compete with Chase Daniel for the privilege of holding the clipboard for Drew Brees. Grayson has yet to throw an NFL pass in two seasons and is unlikely to do so this year, but his long-term progress could be worth monitoring in dynasty leagues if Brees doesn't hang around another five years.
