The Kansas City Chiefs informed defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs of his release on Monday, according to a source. The move was expected after Buggs was arrested on June 16 on charges of domestic violence and burglary less than a month after he turned himself in for misdemeanor animal-cruelty charges. It remains to be seen if he'll get picked up by another team on the open market before the start of the 2024 season. The 27-year-old was originally a sixth-round pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2019 draft out of Alabama. Buggs played the first three years of his career in Pittsburgh before joining the Detroit Lions for the last two seasons. Detroit waived him earlier this year. In his five years in the NFL, Buggs has 89 tackles (42 solo), two sacks, four tackles for loss, 12 QB hits, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in 56 games (23 starts).
Isaiah Buggs Charged With Domestic Violence, Burglary
Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs was arrested for the second time in a month after he was booked on a domestic-violence/burglary charge in Alabama on Sunday morning and released, according to online records. On May 30, Buggs turned himself in after he was charged with two misdemeanor counts of second-degree animal cruelty in Tuscaloosa. His agent, Trey Robinson, has alleged his client is a victim of an ongoing "subversive campaign" to force the closure of the hookah lounge he owns in Alabama. The 27-year-old was originally a sixth-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2019 out of Alabama. He played the first three years of his career in Pittsburgh before spending 2022 and 2023 with the Detroit Lions. The Chiefs signed him to their practice squad in January and re-signed him to a futures deal in February.
Isaiah Buggs Facing Misdemeanor Warrants Related To Animal Cruelty
Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs is facing two misdemeanor warrants issued by Tuscaloosa police for second-degree cruelty to dogs, according to NFL insider Ari Meirov. The 27-year-old is accused of leaving two dogs locked on his property without access to food or water. Needless to say, these are serious allegations and could put the veteran journeyman on the roster hot seat. Buggs entered the league as a sixth-round pick in 2019 and has totaled 89 tackles and two sacks with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Detroit Lions. He signed with Kansas City's practice squad on January 4 but did not appear in one of their postseason games.
The Detroit Lions released defensive tackle Isaiah Buggs on Tuesday. Head coach Dan Campbell said fellow defensive lineman Alim McNeill (knee) could be back from Injured Reserve this week, and this move makes room for that to happen. Buggs was a sixth-round pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2019 out of Alabama. He was on the Las Vegas Raiders practice squad in 2021 before signing with the Lions. The 27-year-old appeared in all 17 games for Detroit last season, totaling 46 tackles, one sack, and a forced fumble. This season, he has only played in ten games, compiling 12 tackles, one sack, and a fumble recovery.
The Detroit Lions signed former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs to an undisclosed deal on Friday, according to a source. Buggs appeared in 29 games for the Steelers from 2019 through last year before joining the Las Vegas Raiders during the playoffs in January. The 25-year-old was originally a sixth-round selection by the Steelers in the 2019 draft out of Alabama. In three seasons with the Steelers, he has recorded only 31 tackles (14 solo) and two tackles for loss in 29 games (seven starts), so he'll be hoping to provide defensive line depth on the interior for the Lions this year.
