The New York Giants signed offensive tackle Isaiah Wilson, a former first-round pick last year by the Tennessee Titans, to their practice squad on Thursday. Wilson, who is 6-foot-7 and 330 pounds, played just three offensive snaps in his rookie season and was traded to the Miami Dolphins in March. Off-the-field issues caused him to be suspended for one game in Tennessee in 2020, but the Giants are hoping he can help their offensive line depth after several early season injuries. New York has had three different starting offensive line combinations in the first three games, and that could move to four in Week 4 against the New Orleans Saints.
Offensive lineman Isaiah Wilson worked out for the New York Giants on Tuesday. Wilson was a first-round pick by the Tennessee Titans in 2020, but he only played in one game due to numerous off-the-field incidents. Wilson was then dealt to the Miami Dolphins this offseason, but he only lasted 12 days with more off-the-field incidents. Despite his numerous off-the-field incidents, scouts are still willing to gamble on his potential upside. Wilson worked out with the Colts last week, and the Giants present another chance for him to try to return to the league.
The Tennessee Titans have shopped first-round offensive tackle Isaiah Wilson this offseason, according to sources. The team is open to trading the former Georgia star after he played in only a handful of snaps in one game for the Titans in his rookie season after being taken with the 29th overall pick in the first round of last year's draft. The 22-year-old ended the 2020 season on the Non-Football Injury list after dealing with a couple of off-the-field incidents. Tennessee drafted Wilson hoping that he would take over for Jack Conklin on the offensive line after he left in free agency. General manager Jon Robinson called Wilson out recently, and Wilson responded by hinting on social media that his time in Tennessee was over. Perhaps he'll have better luck in his second season with another team.
Tennessee Titans right tackle Isaiah Wilson, the team's first-round draft pick (29th overall) last year, was put on notice by general manager Jon Robinson last week after he failed to live up to expectations in his rookie season. Wilson wrote on Twitter on Monday night that he is "done with football as a Titan" before deleting it soon after. He played just four snaps in 2020 and was put on the Non-Football Injury list in December. Wilson was also on the COVID-19 list twice, once in training camp and once in October. The 22-year-old from Georgia also had a couple of run-ins with the law off the field. Wilson was signed to a four-year, $11.6 million deal last August. The Titans would have a $5.4 million salary cap charge if they release him.
Tennessee Titans general manager Jon Robinson put last year's first-round pick, offensive tackle Isaiah Wilson, on notice during a virtual news conference on Tuesday. Wilson played just four snaps in 2020 despite being the 29th overall pick in the draft. "We put him on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list and haven't spoken to him since. He's going to have to make a determination on whether he wants to do what it takes to play pro football. That will be on him," Robinson said. The right tackle also went on the COVID-19 list twice and had some run-ins with the law. The 6-foot-6, 350-pounder impressed the Titans during the pre-draft process, but there looks to be some buyer's remorse on Tennessee's side after Wilson's disappointing first season. The 22-year-old has a lot of work to do to regain the team's trust heading into his sophomore season in 2021.
The Tennessee Titans placed first-round rookie offensive tackle Isaiah Wilson on the Reserve/Non-Football Illness list on Wednesday. "Currently, he is dealing with some personal issues, which will take some time for him to work through," general manager Jon Robinson said in a statement. "We will continue to help him and support him, with the hope that he can ultimately re-join the team." Wilson was the 29th overall pick in this year's draft but has played in just one game for the Titans in 2020. Tennessee was hoping that the 21-year-old could help replace tackle Jack Conklin, but that just hasn't been the case. With just four games remaining in the regular season, we've likely seen the last of Wilson in his rookie season.
Titans First-Round Pick Isaiah Wilson Arrested For DUI
Tennessee Titans first-round pick Isaiah Wilson was arrested Friday night for DUI, the Davidson County Sheriff's Office confirmed. Tennessee selected Wilson with the 29th pick in the draft to solidify their future at right tackle. Wilson started training camp on the COVID-19 reserve list and struggled with conditioning once he was able to take part in practice. He was once again placed on the COVID-19 reserve list last week.
Isaiah Wilson Comes Off The Board To Titans At 29th Overall
The Tennessee Titans selected Georgia offensive tackle Isaiah Wilson with the No. 29 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft on Thursday. It's the second offensive lineman from Georgia to come off the board in the first round this year. Wilson is a huge body as a run blocker and can be dominant in driving defenders off the ball when he gets the proper leverage. His feet are decent and he will need some improvement in that area in pass-protecting, but he lands with a team that obviously loves to run the ball first and foremost with a ground-and-pound mentality with running back Derrick Henry. There is upside here for Wilson, and he should slot right in at right tackle to help replace Jack Conklin.
